FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Congratulations to all of this year’s senior graduates for a successful high school career.
Special congratulations to Sydney Barber, this year’s Valedictorian, and to Angela McCall, this
year’s Salutatorian. I hope that many of you will be able to come and help celebrate the ac-
complishments of our graduating seniors and the end of another very successful school year at
our senior graduation ceremony on Friday, June 26th at 7:00 PM.
Congratulations to Mrs. Hayley Killon for her recent election to a five year school board
term. Congratulations also to Mrs. Danae Tucker for her recent election to a three year term
on the school board. Thank you both in advance for your willingness to serve our students,
our school, and our community.
It is with great sadness that I also must make mention of Dr. Jeffrey Eager’s departure from
our school board. After serving for thirty-five years, Dr. Eager decided not to seek another
term. Thirty five years is quite an accomplishment and speaks to the level of Dr. Eager’s care
for our school. During his tenure, Dr. Eager has worked with several administrators, dozens of
teachers and staff, and hundreds of students. On behalf of the entire school community, thank
you, Dr. Eager, for your three and one-half decades of service. Your interest in public educa-
tion, passion for our school, and commitment to multiple generations of MCS students are ap-
preciated beyond what words can describe.
I hope everyone has a restful, enjoyable and safe summer!

Conditions Ideal for Service
After two postponements, Minerva Central Jr./Sr. High School students and their teachers participated in a
school and community service day on Friday, May 1. The weather was perfect for outdoor work, and students
accomplished even more than expected. Students who ventured into the community visited homes to rake,
stack firewood and offer general help with spring chores and clean up. Six community members’ homes, as
well as the Mountain Lakes Services property, were freshened up. In addition, a group of students raked and
cleaned the upper half of Courtney Park. School-based activities included raking a large portion of the school
grounds, cleaning windows in other hard to reach areas in the building and finishing the alphabet mural in the
elementary hallway.
Feedback about the day was positive from students and community members alike. Everyone agreed that it was
a worthwhile experience that helped improve the look of the school and our town. Given the ideal weather con-
ditions and the great amount of work that was done, this day was definitely worth the wait! If you have ideas or
requests for our 2015-2016 Community Service Day, please contact Shannon Stone at MCS (251-2000).

MUSIC NEWS
“If a composer could say what he had to say in words, he would not bother trying to say it in music.” - Gustav Mahler, Austrian Composer
Thank you to everyone who attended this year’s spring concert! It was wonderful to
see such a packed house full of people who truly support the arts at MCS. All students, from
the littlest Pre-Ks up to our seniors, performed beautifully. Thanks again to all teachers, staff
and community members who helped us with putting on the concert.
With thanks, as well as a touch of sadness, we say goodbye to our graduating seniors.
Thanks to Richard Bennett, Jessica Hill and Angela McCall who have contributed so much to
the music department during their careers at MCS. Good luck, everyone – we’ll miss you!
Our annual elementary concert will take place on Friday, June 12th @ 1:30 pm in the
gym. This will include our third grade class performing on recorders, as well as fourth, fifth
and sixth grade elementary band students. We invite everyone in the community to come
out and support our beginning instrumental students as they learn more about music and
begin to experience performing for the public.
This year’s Senior Graduation will take place on Friday, June 26th @ 7:00 pm in the gym.
Parents of band and chorus members will be receiving a graduation slip soon. Graduation is a
required performance for all band and chorus members. Please fill out the slip and return it
to school. If you have a conflict with this date, please contact Mrs. LaPointe as soon as possi-
ble. We need every band and chorus student present to make the music performances spe-
cial for our graduating class!
Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns, by e-mail:
[email protected] or by phone at 251-2000. Thank you for your support!
~Mrs. LaPointe
