DESCRIPTION

A presentation on the Metis people of Canada. My 9 year old daughter made this up on her own on her ipad with absolutely no assistance from Mom or Dad. I'm so proud of her. I had no idea she had this skill. I guess hours on Minecraft is teaching her something. :-)

METIS COMMUNITY'S

The métis children often lived with there mother's group.

Sometimes, small community's were formed.

The métis moved to Red River valley.

CELEBRATING CULTURE

The métis culture is not like any culture.

The métis speak there own language and have there own beliefs.

WHO IS LOUIS RIEL?

Louis Riel was the head of the Métis nation of Canada.

He was born in 1844 in the settlement of Red River.

He fought in justice at the hands of the government and ended up giving his life for his beliefs.

In 1885 he was hanged.

SPEAKING MICHIF

The métis language is called michif.

Michif is not like any other language.

Voyagers who spoke both French and Cree begun using words from both languages.

SASHES AND BEADWORK

Traditionally, Metis woman decorated moccasins, clothing, and other items with glass beads.

Girls wear there sash over there shoulder and tied at the waste. Boys wear there sashes on there waste.

DANCING AND MUSIC

Music and dance are very important to métis.

The fiddle is very important to the métis jig.

The métis jig is called the red river jig.

MÉTIS FOOD

The métis makes many traditional food.

Some of them are bannock, and soups.

The métis often have a pot of coffee or tea brewing to welcome guests.

The sash is made of hand woven wool.

The sash is made of 6 colours. Red, green, white, blue, yellow, and orange.
