Certification RequirementsCompletion of a certificate or associates degree program is necessary to meet phlebotomy certification requirements in Arizona. Candidates wishing to enroll in one of the training courses to get phlebotomy training in Arizona must have at least a high school diploma or a General Education Degree (GED). To receive

certification the candidate must complete 40 hours of training in an accredited college, trade school or career center.





The training course can be completed in as little as a week. Some programs take up to 6 weeks. The training includes basic anatomy, patient interaction skills, aseptic and blood collection techniques, the legal issues associated with the collection of blood and standard precautions that must be taken. The candidate then has three chances to pass a written and clinical test. Failure to do so means they must retake the class.

Training ProgramsPhlebotomy training in Tucson is possible at Brookline College (which also has a campus in Phoenix). The course takes place over two semesters and includes both a significant amount of theoretical work as well as practical laboratory work done at hospitals with real patients.





Phlebotomy training in Glendale can be done at the Arizona College of Allied Health. The program is divided into two semesters and each section consists of 10 weeks. The initial part of the training is done on campus and the remainder (at least 200 hours) has to be done off campus at the end of the program. Without externship the entire course will last about 20 weeks.





Phlebotomy training in Phoenix is possible at Phoenix College. This is an 8.5 credit program that includes a required 120 hours of clinical experience completed during the day. When completed, the course allows you to take the national certification exam.





Phlebotomy training in Pima is also possible at Pima Medical Institute, where you complete a total of 70 hours of training and 160 hours of externship in order to gain your right to sit for the certification exam. You learn CPR & First Aid, anatomy, ethics and of course phlebotomy.
