Trident Technical College Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development is offering a Phlebotomist Training Program at the Dorchester County QuickJobs Training Center for qualified applicants. Tuition and books will be provided at no cost to the students who qualify.

The program provides the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to become a phlebotomist. It covers establishing a professional relationship with the patient; anatomy and physiology; medical terminology; selecting and preparing the venipuncture site; collecting specimens; donor patients; preparing and maintaining equipment; and the health, safety and legal aspects of the occupation. Live sticks are performed. A 120-hour clinical externship will begin immediately upon completion of the 60 classroom hours.

To qualify for the freetuition and books, you must:

• be unemployed or underemployed

• have a high school diploma or GED

• successfully pass a drug screen and background check

• be at least 18 years old

• be a U.S. citizen or legal resident residing in South Carolina

• be able to meet physical requirements of a health care position as a phlebotomist

• attend an orientation session

Orientation session begins in November 2014 and classes

begin in January 2015.
