SNAPFOOD STAMPS

You can work and still get SNAP benefits.

Farmers’ markets often accept SNAP benefits, so you can purchase fresh, local produce using your ACCESS card. For more information, see the "From the Farm" section of this guide.

SNAP benefits can help put healthy food on the table by providing benefits to buy food at many local grocery stores and farmers’ markets. Benefits are provided each month through a plastic ACCESS Card, similar to an ATM or credit card.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW?

FOOD STAMPSSNAP

"EBT" stands for Electronic Benefit Transfer, a system set up to easily give you benefits through your ACCESS card.

"SNAP" stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the name for the food stamp program. "SNAP benefits" are the same as food stamps.

Eligibility is based on household size, income, expenses and other factors. Households have to meet income tests to get benefits, but households that have members who are age 60 and older, or who are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits can have higher incomes and still get benefits.

AM I ELIGIBLE?

Childcare and medical expenses for seniors and SSI/SSD recipients can be counted as allowable expenses toward determining your SNAP benefit amount, but are not deducted from gross income to determine eligibility.

Does your monthly household income fall below these limits? If so you may qualify for SNAP.

MONTHLY INCOME LIMITS(BEFORE TAXES)1 Person: $1,6082 People: $2,1663 People: $2,7234 People: $3,2805 People: $3,8386 People: $4,3957 People: $4,9528 People: $5,5109 People: $6,068

10 People: $6,626Each Additional Person: +$558

NOTE: If someone in your household is 60+ years old or disabled, higher income limits apply.

SHARE HOST SITESSHARE HOST SITES

SHARE Food Program's host sites offer food packages for $10 to $30 where people exchange volunteer time for the opportunity to buy affordable food once a month. For each package of food purchased, SHARE asks for two hours of 'good deed' time, whether at SHARE or places in your own neighborhood. You can use your SNAP benefits to purchase packages.

SHARE's food packages offer meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, and grocery items for as little as half the price you would pay at a regular grocery store. The food in SHARE's packages is never donated, government surplus, or salvage.

You can register and submit an order online at www.sharefoodprogram.org, call, or register directly at SHARE's warehouse located at 2901 W. Hunting Park Ave, 19129. Phone: 215-223-2220
