PHILIPPINES 20/20 VISION – MORE OPPORTUNITIES
The Philippines is an archipelago with total land area of 300,000 square kilometres,
7,150+ islands and having the eighth longest coastlines (36,289 km.) in the entire world.
The country’s main advantage is its being an archipelagic island with 30% land mass
while the remaining 70% comprises 3,219 km. of waterways. It has a proven oil reserve
of 138.500 Million barrels and an oil production of 12,000 barrels per day. It is centrally
located in the busiest sea lane and commerce route in the Asia-Pacific region.
The country’s rainforest and body of water is one of the healthiest, vibrant, liveliest and
colourful scenes a visitor can find. It is home to some of the rarest species of mammals,
aquatic fishes, birds, plants, flora and fauna which are all unique and beautiful that can
only be found in this part of the world. Many foreign scientists came in drove just to be
delighted by the discoveries of more unique species and there are more un-discovered
species that are still to be found in the whole archipelago of the Philippines.
The projected total Philippine population for the year 2015 census will reached
105.720 Million. The country’s labor force survey (LFS) conducted last year of April
2014 reached the level of 63.773 Million strong workforces that belongs to younger
population of 15-years old and over. About 2.081 Million reach the age of 15-years
old annually and literacy rate is at its highest at (98%) ninety-eight percentages. More
than (80%) eighty percentage of its entire population are Roman Catholic and is one of
the countries identified by the World Bank and IMF for having the youngest population
in the whole world.
In terms of global comparative industrial productivity, transfer of knowledge and skills,
the Filipinos are English-speaking, easily train (can be train in just about (8) eight
weeks or 2-months), hardworking, friendly and is able to compete at the highest
levels among the best in the world.

PHILIPPINES 20/20 VISION – CHARTERING TO BIGGER MARKETS
The forthcoming integration of the 10-nations ASEAN Economic Community (AEC)
next January 2016 offers larger market opportunities and challenges outside of the
Philippines. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are composed of
member states namely; Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar,
Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam.
Once the harmonization of the different rules and standards are integrated and
completed by the year 2018; all goods, services, investment, capital and talents will be
highly mobile. Under the integration plan, tariffs on most goods coming from the 10-
nations ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will be down to zero or near zero, and all
its financial systems will be integrated, while restrictions on employment will be eased.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) of which our country – the
Philippines is a member state, is also set to become an attractive site for investors with
the economic integration, becomes a single market and production base. As this
developed, the ASEAN bloc is projected to receive huge investments as foreign
companies move to expand their businesses in a bid to take a bigger share of huge
market once integration is effected starting next year January 2016.
The needs for the development of the Philippines greenfield manufacturing industries in
the sectors of aerospace, automotive, electrical/electronics, high-technology plastics
such as composite carbon fibre and carbon fibre reinforce plastic (CFRP), engineering
plastics (high performance plastic) and shipbuilding, are all 21st. century industries.
Diversification & Continuing Development of these high-value added products are the
two major strategies that the Philippines can pursue in order to increase its merchandise
export and expand market opportunities beyond the 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS).

PHILIPPINES 20/20 VISION – GREENFIELD INDUSTRIES
The new Greenfield manufacturing industries that already have its presence in the
Philippines are the best entries in the diversification and development effort to add more
high-value added products for an expanded export market.
The development of new high-technology industries in the plastic manufacturing sector
with specific promotion in the areas of composite carbon fibre (CCF) and carbon fibre
reinforce plastic (CFRP) and engineering plastics (HPP - high-performance plastic) are
the three (3) key high-technology products with most promising market that is
expected to be sustained in the near future. These products are use and in high demand
from the aerospace and defense industries in the first world countries. An increasing use
of CFRP and HPP in the automotive and wind energy is another market opportunities.
The global engineering plastics market is another expanding opportunity estimated to
reach US$79 Billion in the year 2018, according to the report on the sector conducted
by MarketsandMarkets. Engineering plastics exhibit high dimensional stability, good
heat and chemical resistance and high strength. In general, the use of engineering
plastics helps in the development of durable, reliable and more efficient products than
their predecessors (metals). Major end-user industries where engineering plastics are
used to replace metal are the automotive and transportation sector. Other major end-
user industries are consumer products and appliances, electrical and electronics,
industrial and machinery, medical, construction and others.
The success in combining plastics with metal is a new innovation in technology that
offers significant weight reduction while retaining the stability properties of metal.
In the automotive and transportation sector, future trends are replacing metals in
vehicles with various types of engineering plastics which are more lightweight, fuel
efficient, sustainable materials (recyclable) and can be use in advanced vehicle designs.

PHILIPPINES 20/VISION – FORWARD TO THE FUTURE
The new Philippine manufacturing roadmap also showed an upsurge demand for more
development of industrial eco-zones which operates as an independent customs territory
that mostly caters to manufacturing plants geared on export market opportunities abroad.
This initiative is directly in tandem in the development of the Philippines automotive
industry’s new manufacturing roadmap aim at increasing local parts content suppliers
and promoting new car sub-sector in the areas of research and design (R&D).
Continued optimism in the manufacturing sector also resulted into more foreign direct
investments with majority coming from major trading partners such as U.S.A., France,
Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Britain, Germany, Netherland & Taiwan which already
shifted their mother production facilities and regional manufacturing plants to the country.
Based on both National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and Philippine
Statistics Authority (PSA) reports, the final tally for the total export revenue performance
registered over a seven (7) years annual basis starting January to December trade
statistics from the year 2010 (Actual) up to 2016 (Forecast) are illustrated below;
