ABS-CBN presents Holy Week programming for Pinoys
In observance of the Holy Week season, ABS-CBN presents its special holy week programming block this Maundy Thursday (April 2), Good Friday (April 3), and Black Saturday (April 4).
ABS-CBN has beefed up its Holy Week programming with shows that will strengthen the Filipino faith and allow Filipinos to reflect during the Holy Week season. Timely episodes of “Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK),” enlightening episodes of “Superbook,” moving Star Cinema movies, heartwarming restored classics, and a marathon of the top-rating morning teleserye, “Oh My G” will be airing on the Kapamilya network.
Maundy Thursday will be packed with enriching shows including “Superbook” (10:30AM); “Stations of the Cross (Healing Eucharist)” (12NN); “Always One With You Part 1 (Moments with Father Jerry Nita Trofeo)” (2PM); “Kalbaryo 2015” (3PM); “Washing of the Feet (Healing Eucharist)” (5PM); “MMK: Piso” (6PM); “Ekstra” (7:30PM); and “Himala” (9:30PM).
On Good Friday, ABS-CBN’s programming features a string of inspiring shows such as “Superbook” (10:30AM); “Seven Last Words” (12NN); “Always One With You Part 2” (3PM); “Veneration of the Cross (Healing Eucharist)” (4PM); “Pope from the End of the World” (5PM); “MMK: Wedding Gown” (6PM); “Sa ‘Yo Lamang” (7:30PM); and “Tanging Yaman” (9:30PM).
Meanwhile, Black Saturday is all about bolstering one’s faith through the following shows: “Documentary on the Philippine Papal Visit” (9AM); “Superbook” (10:30AM); “Oh My G” marathon (12NN); “MMK” (6PM); “Way Back Home” (7:30PM); “It Takes A Man and a Woman” (9:30PM); and an “Easter Vigil (Healing Eucharist)” (11:30PM). O Shopping will still air during the Holy Week at 12MN.
ABS-CBN’s noontime program “It’s Showtime,” meanwhile, also brings inspiration by presenting the life stories of its most notable contestants, featuring their struggles and journey to fulfilling their dreams. Hosts Vice Ganda, Billy Crawford, Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, and Karylle will portray “Stars on 45” champion Ricardo Marcial, “I Am PoGay” grand winner John Raspado, and “Pinasikat” contestants Anna Marie Garbo, Ricardo Cadavero, and Beverlyn Renoria in the special Lenten episodes from Monday to Wednesday (March 30 to April 1).

Ang Aksyon TV naman ay 24 hours pa ring nag-broadcast nung semana santa ng 2012, pati yata 2013. 'Di ako sigurado noong 2014 at noong 2011.

Holy Week on Philippine TV - A Perspective View
Holy Week - an important event that all Christians from around the world, in which they commemorate the passion, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This week marks with the rich traditions and liturgy that every Christians (majority are the Roman Catholics) are involved to participate and reflect on the salvific works of Jesus for the sinners and for those who believe on His Presence as the Son of God. Here in the Philippines, Filipinos are aware on this one-week celebration with an utmost humility and sacrifice for the benefit of a meaningful celebration for all the Christians.
On Philippine TV, it is a tradition of every networks to have their sign-offs at midnight of Maundy Thursday (others at 1 AM or other preferred time of the same day, depending on their regular broadcasting hour schedule) in order to have their employees' vacation break and annual maintenance of their broadcasting facilities (studios, transmitters, etc.). But during 1980's, only one TV station remained on-air for a purpose. RPN 9 (now CNN Philippines ch. 9) became a forerunner of special prorgrammings for Holy Week, mostly produced by the Catholic ministries like 'Sharing in the City' (managed by Dr. Luz Espiritu at supervised by Fr. Sonny Ramirez, OP with coordination of the Dominican Province of the Philippines), 'Shalom Charismatic Ministry' (Fr. Archie Guiriba, OFM), and 'ABC Productions' (by the late Bro. Melvin Canlas) - who pioneered the longest annual special program 'The Seven Last Words' since 1987, and up to now this program continues to air for more than 20 years.
In 1990's, other TV networks also followed this trend with no competition. They also prepared their Holy Week special programming for the benefit of the faithful. IBC 13 had their programs together with EL SHADDAI - Prayer Partners Fellowship International Catholic Charismatic Renewal's Holy Week celebrations which includes their Easter Vigil overmight event. ABS-CBN ch. 2 and GMA 7 had also their special programming on these days (yet they have more sign-offs on these decade). Other TV channels like Citynet 27 (owned by GMA 7, now used for DTTB test broadcast) and RMN's channel 31 (now BEAM 31) also joined the bandwagon for spiritual propagation - showcasing the movies like 'Jesus of Nazareth' and 'The Life of Christ' (produced by the Family Rosary Crusade's Family Theater of the late Fr. Patrick Peyton).
Late 1990's until 2000's also gave opportunity to other networks to offer spiritual programs for Holy Week. Studio 23 (now ABS-CBN Sports+Action ch. 23) and ZOE TV 11 (now on Light Network ch. 33) featured special movies for the faithful about the story of Jesus and His sacrifices and death on the Cross. Other channels owned by other religious denominations remained on-air for obvious reasons.
Time may pass, yet the symbolic sacrifices of every TV networks to commemorate the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ brings us the true meaning of Holy Week in the Philippines. No matter if they sign-off on the three days of Holy Week or to have special programming on-air, the essence of reflecting the Great Mystery of Christ is a purpose towards our transformation from our old to the new life that we should attain.
Yet, the importance of airing special programs for Holy Week should be in the light of the Paschal Mystery of Christ - that will be wholesome for all, even kids and adults. Still other Filipinos want to prefer all TV networks to go off-air, so that they may concentrate on joining to the religious activities at their nearby Parish Church; since this is traditional. Yet, as I say, time may pass. Every TV networks may have their option to go off the air or to sacrifice their broadcast to showcase religious shows and movies with lessons for the benefit of the faithful.
As the Paschal Triduum draws near, let us think and reflect on how a TV network has doing its best to showcase mainstream programming this Holy Week. Most of all, I would also like to recommend to all Catholic TV networks to showcase Liturgical Ceremonies in order to understand the Filipinos on the beauty of the Holy Week celebrations in the Church. The great sacrifice of every TV networks in order to offer their time and days is the benefit of the greatest love that Jesus Christ offered to all of us.

ABS-CBN presents Holy Week programming for Pinoys
In observance of the Holy Week season, ABS-CBN presents its special holy week programming block this Maundy Thursday (April 2), Good Friday (April 3), and Black Saturday (April 4).
ABS-CBN has beefed up its Holy Week programming with shows that will strengthen the Filipino faith and allow Filipinos to reflect during the Holy Week season. Timely episodes of “Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK),” enlightening episodes of “Superbook,” moving Star Cinema movies, heartwarming restored classics, and a marathon of the top-rating morning teleserye, “Oh My G” will be airing on the Kapamilya network.
Maundy Thursday will be packed with enriching shows including “Superbook” (10:30AM); “Stations of the Cross (Healing Eucharist)” (12NN); “Always One With You Part 1 (Moments with Father Jerry Nita Trofeo)” (2PM); “Kalbaryo 2015” (3PM); “Washing of the Feet (Healing Eucharist)” (5PM); “MMK: Piso” (6PM); “Ekstra” (7:30PM); and “Himala” (9:30PM).
On Good Friday, ABS-CBN’s programming features a string of inspiring shows such as “Superbook” (10:30AM); “Seven Last Words” (12NN); “Always One With You Part 2” (3PM); “Veneration of the Cross (Healing Eucharist)” (4PM); “Pope from the End of the World” (5PM); “MMK: Wedding Gown” (6PM); “Sa ‘Yo Lamang” (7:30PM); and “Tanging Yaman” (9:30PM).
Meanwhile, Black Saturday is all about bolstering one’s faith through the following shows: “Documentary on the Philippine Papal Visit” (9AM); “Superbook” (10:30AM); “Oh My G” marathon (12NN); “MMK” (6PM); “Way Back Home” (7:30PM); “It Takes A Man and a Woman” (9:30PM); and an “Easter Vigil (Healing Eucharist)” (11:30PM). O Shopping will still air during the Holy Week at 12MN.
ABS-CBN’s noontime program “It’s Showtime,” meanwhile, also brings inspiration by presenting the life stories of its most notable contestants, featuring their struggles and journey to fulfilling their dreams. Hosts Vice Ganda, Billy Crawford, Anne Curtis, Vhong Navarro, and Karylle will portray “Stars on 45” champion Ricardo Marcial, “I Am PoGay” grand winner John Raspado, and “Pinasikat” contestants Anna Marie Garbo, Ricardo Cadavero, and Beverlyn Renoria in the special Lenten episodes from Monday to Wednesday (March 30 to April 1).

Holy Week on Philippine TV - A Perspective View
Holy Week - an important event that all Christians from around the world, in which they commemorate the passion, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This week marks with the rich traditions and liturgy that every Christians (majority are the Roman Catholics) are involved to participate and reflect on the salvific works of Jesus for the sinners and for those who believe on His Presence as the Son of God. Here in the Philippines, Filipinos are aware on this one-week celebration with an utmost humility and sacrifice for the benefit of a meaningful celebration for all the Christians.
On Philippine TV, it is a tradition of every networks to have their sign-offs at midnight of Maundy Thursday (others at 1 AM or other preferred time of the same day, depending on their regular broadcasting hour schedule) in order to have their employees' vacation break and annual maintenance of their broadcasting facilities (studios, transmitters, etc.). But during 1980's, only one TV station remained on-air for a purpose. RPN 9 (now CNN Philippines ch. 9) became a forerunner of special prorgrammings for Holy Week, mostly produced by the Catholic ministries like 'Sharing in the City' (managed by Dr. Luz Espiritu at supervised by Fr. Sonny Ramirez, OP with coordination of the Dominican Province of the Philippines), 'Shalom Charismatic Ministry' (Fr. Archie Guiriba, OFM), and 'ABC Productions' (by the late Bro. Melvin Canlas) - who pioneered the longest annual special program 'The Seven Last Words' since 1987, and up to now this program continues to air for more than 20 years.
In 1990's, other TV networks also followed this trend with no competition. They also prepared their Holy Week special programming for the benefit of the faithful. IBC 13 had their programs together with EL SHADDAI - Prayer Partners Fellowship International Catholic Charismatic Renewal's Holy Week celebrations which includes their Easter Vigil overmight event. ABS-CBN ch. 2 and GMA 7 had also their special programming on these days (yet they have more sign-offs on these decade). Other TV channels like Citynet 27 (owned by GMA 7, now used for DTTB test broadcast) and RMN's channel 31 (now BEAM 31) also joined the bandwagon for spiritual propagation - showcasing the movies like 'Jesus of Nazareth' and 'The Life of Christ' (produced by the Family Rosary Crusade's Family Theater of the late Fr. Patrick Peyton).
Late 1990's until 2000's also gave opportunity to other networks to offer spiritual programs for Holy Week. Studio 23 (now ABS-CBN Sports+Action ch. 23) and ZOE TV 11 (now on Light Network ch. 33) featured special movies for the faithful about the story of Jesus and His sacrifices and death on the Cross. Other channels owned by other religious denominations remained on-air for obvious reasons.
Time may pass, yet the symbolic sacrifices of every TV networks to commemorate the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ brings us the true meaning of Holy Week in the Philippines. No matter if they sign-off on the three days of Holy Week or to have special programming on-air, the essence of reflecting the Great Mystery of Christ is a purpose towards our transformation from our old to the new life that we should attain.
Yet, the importance of airing special programs for Holy Week should be in the light of the Paschal Mystery of Christ - that will be wholesome for all, even kids and adults. Still other Filipinos want to prefer all TV networks to go off-air, so that they may concentrate on joining to the religious activities at their nearby Parish Church; since this is traditional. Yet, as I say, time may pass. Every TV networks may have their option to go off the air or to sacrifice their broadcast to showcase religious shows and movies with lessons for the benefit of the faithful.
As the Paschal Triduum draws near, let us think and reflect on how a TV network has doing its best to showcase mainstream programming this Holy Week. Most of all, I would also like to recommend to all Catholic TV networks to showcase Liturgical Ceremonies in order to understand the Filipinos on the beauty of the Holy Week celebrations in the Church. The great sacrifice of every TV networks in order to offer their time and days is the benefit of the greatest love that Jesus Christ offered to all of us.
