THE

PSME MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

DR. JEFFREY F. SINGSON National President

Fellow members of this beloved Society, our March did not go as planned. The government’s order to put the NCR and other regions under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) may have affected our operation but will ensure betterment of the entire nation. Hence, we must abide by it and adjust ourselves in order to help surpass this global challenge.

We suspended our operations at the PSME National Headquarters on the same day the community quarantine was imposed, and instructed our employees to work from home. We are currently operating with limited services. We also advised our chapters to adhere to the directives of their respective local government units.

We are currently looking for ways on how to utilize and maximize the available time we have at home as a result of the limited movements brought about by the community quarantine. We will search for activities that we can do online that will benefit our members. We will keep you posted on the progress of this option at our official Facebook page.

Meanwhile, for those who do not have a valid reason to leave your abode, we urge you to stay at home. Up to this writing, I received information that two of our members are already positive of COVID 19 but are already recovering. May we all pray to the Almighty for their fast recovery as well as for others who were tested positive and are still struggling. There is a shortage of Mechanical Engineers in this country, so please stay healthy and please stay home.

On behalf of the national board, I would like to thank the Professional Mechanical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Certified Plant Mechanics and all other engineers from different disciplines who are serving at the sidelines: those who are keeping the plants up and running to ensure availability and stability of water and power for the consuming public, those who are working at the food manufacturing plants to ensure food availability at this time of crisis, those who are working in hospitals and other medical and health care establishments to ensure that equipment are all in working conditions, to those who are sharing their knowledge in the development of equipment that will help the medical group in battling this pandemic.

And on behalf of the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers, I would like to thank all medical and allied professionals, the armed forces, the national and local government, and all others who are risking their lives to gain control over this pandemic. Keep safe everyone!

To make its general assembly more meaningful and valuable, the PSME Jeddah Chapter held a seminar on the “Fundamentals of Refrigeration & Airconditioning System” and the induction of its 2020 Board of Directors and Officers.

The event was successfully held at the Jeddah Chapter headquarters located in Al Salama District, Jeddah, KSA on March 8, 2020. This was made possible through the donation of each chapter officer, members, and attendees of 100 Saudi Riyals to cover the food expenses and seminar certificates for everyone.

Aside from the Jeddah Chapter officers and members, Mechanical and Electrical technicians were among the attendees making a total of 35 participants.

Technical Speakers were Jeddah Chapter Executive VP Engr. Henry R. Cordero and Director for Technical Affairs Engr. Ronel A. Estrada who discussed P-H and T-S Diagram and Vapor Compression Cycle respectively.

within the ECQ period as well as the postponement of ATC and ALMA seminars and trainings.

In a post in the PSME Facebook page, Dr. Singson also notified the members and the public that the PSME National Office has not engaged in a “Call for Donation” campaign or any similar activity related to the Covid-19 relief operations. Considering that the pandemic is affecting the entire country, he believes that localized, rather than centralized, efforts will be more effective.

And while he encouraged the chapters who have the capability and resources to help their local communities under the Bayanihan spirit, he advised them to adhere to the health protocols, guidelines and advisories of concerned government agencies and their respective LGUS to prevent, control and mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
