President’s Message

Welcome to the PPA 2016 Spring edition newsletter! I am close to the end of my

term as President of the Philippine Psychiatrists in America. Time flies, and it is hard to

believe it has been two years! It has been such an honor to serve our organization - it

has been a very good experience as we worked on many organizational issues on mem-

bership, finances, and sustainability. We elected Dr. EJ Santos as our Secretary, and she

will undoubtedly help keep us organized and connected. We created a new website

with current information, and made it possible to make payments online. We continue

to strengthen collaborations between the PPA and our Philippine counterpart

(Philippine Psychiatric Association, also PPA) through presentations at the recent suc-

cessful World Psychiatric Association Regional Congress held at the Hotel Sofitel Philip-

pine Plaza Manila, Philippines in February 2016.

While many of you are lifetime members, I urge you to invite new members to

join to keep our organization alive and active. I invite you to visit our website now

(http://ppa-online.weebly.com/), and join or renew your membership online. (See next

page for instructions.) And I hope to see everyone at our Philippine Psychiatrists in

America 42nd Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia in May!

Please come to our May 15th PPA business meeting with a nomination for the

next PPA President and please make sure they have accepted the nomination. I

NeuroModulation in Today's Psychiatric Practice

Erwin F. Ramos, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer, TheraMind Services, Inc.

Dr. Ramos will discuss advances in psychiatric treatment beyond

psychopharmacology. Participants will learn about the use of di-

agnostic modalities such as fMRI or DTIs and treatments such as

transcranial magnetic stimulation, transcranial direct current

stimulation and Pulse Electromagnetic Field Therapy. Participants

will learn how to add these modalities to clinical practice, and

gain understanding of reimbursement issues.

Tribute to President Elpidio Quirino Buddy Ligot, M.D.

PPA Immediate Past-President

Dr. Ligot will present an encore on PTSD

and post-traumatic growth as a tribute to

President Elpidio Quirino on his 60th

death anniversary held on February 29th

at the Philippine Center in New York.
