Dr. Patrick D. Flores, author of Art

and Society/Sining at Lipunan, once

decribe Philippine Contemporary Art

with “The feeling (is) that all is

possible in the contemporary

conceived as a constantly extending

and constellation of art.” It allows

Filipino Artists to portray the subject

and the medium in innovative skillful

ways reflecting Pinoy’s identity.

• The architecture of the

Philippines (Filipino:

Arkitekturang Pilipino) is a

reflection of the country's

historical and cultural heritage.

Most prominent historic

structures in the archipelago are

based on a mix of indigenous

Austronesian, Indic , Chinese,

Malay, American, and Spanish

influences.

LITERATURE

Page 12: Philippine Contemporary Arts

• A portion of early modern

Philippine literature was written

during the American period, most

often as an expression of post-

Hispanic nationalism by those who

had either been uneducated in

Spanish or had lived in the Bisaya-

speaking cities, and whose

principles entered in conflict with

American cultural trends.
