Lisa Lazard: Empowering Women in Her Queendom

One glance at Lisa Lizard would have anybody thinking that she has been drinking from a fountain of youth. Eating healthy, making good choices concerning what she eats and exercising at least three times a week is what keeps the recently turned 50-year-old vigorous. However, the middle-age beauty’s brain-power combined with passion makes her successful. “I believe that God has kept me,” she stated. “He said that we can have a fountain of youth, and I am definitely drinking from that fountain.”

Lazard is also a savvy businesswoman. She owns Kingdom Alarms with her husband. They have been in the alarm system business together for more than 20 years and have four children, ages 12-16. Although Lazard is commended for her youthful features and business ventures, she is a leader through her community service. She empowers women through Queendom Ministries, Inc., a ministry based in Lafayette, Louisiana, that she established in 2004. Meetings are held on Saturday of every two weeks.

“The real ministry is outside of the four walls, and we got to go get them,” Lazard said. “We go to the hous-ing projects, and we do seminars and activities with the women there. It’s all centered around with know-ing who they are because a lot of times they don’t feel valuable or worthy of their current situations. We give them tools to help them come out of or off of the government system, equipping them to stand on their own.” Cont. on page 16

The ULL VS. SU brought so much talent and fun to the City of Lafayette. Progressive Bap-tist Church had their Gospel Concert with Eric Pursey, The Southern University Gospel Choir. Lafayette’s Local Minister Marlice Young participate also. This event kick off the event fill weekend. It was an awesome experience as many of those who attened said.

The ULL Rajun Cajun put on a stellar performance, reminding their fans why they won the tile last year. ULL football is off to a good start with a season opener win 45-6 against In-Home Opponent Southern University. Also ULl Football has record high attendance for this game that not even the rain would stop the Love for the game. ULL has sold record season tickets> According to ULL website: The current total of 12,276 marks the fourth consecutive year the Rajun’ Cajuns have set a season-ticket record, eclipsing last year’s mark of 11,833. FASMG encourages everyone to buy season tickets; this is an awesome team to support and it definitely drives record numbers in revenues to the local economy.

Southern University Band put on an awesome half time show. You may wonder if it did rain, as these students did not miss a beat. The football team should be saluted as the weather was not favorable and they played against a powerhouse championship ULL team. Southern fans lined up with some of the best looking RV’S in the Cajun Dome Parking Lot. The Tailgating was professional; these fans were stocked and well prepare, nothing missing. My Finances Are Out Of Control.................

Many are finding their finances are out of control. With the last quarter left in the year; one still have time to get their finances back in order. Don’t fret here are some tips to getting the $$$$$$ back where it belongs.

Tips:

1. Look for your budget that you made at the beginning of the year, if you didn’t make one make one now. School is in and there maybe fees or expenses that may come up.

2. Do Check and balances; where did the increase spending come in

3. Go over your utility bills, cable bills, all household expenses.

4. Check for opportunities to refinance any loans, negotiate on credit card interests

5. Improve your credit. There are ways to dispute what’s not yours, call all creditors, work out payment plans, get current as soon as possible. Make a plan and work a plan to get your credit score to increase. Look for ways to do revolving credit; don’t make loans that you can’t afford, it’s best to pay off any outstanding balances and slowly get into new credit. Remember, you didn’t get there overnight and you will not get out of there overnight.

6. Start your Christmas Holiday Budget now. It is best to do so before the Holiday Season. Don’t buy Christmas Gifts on emotions and over spend. You can also start shopping now also. Waiting for that big sale can be dangerous, you may save a little but in the long run you may spend more, i.e.: Time and Gas. Some things will not be worth the sale price. Most stores only carry a few items of sale merchan-dise, you have to be the lucky number. So take that in consideration and decide what’s important.

7. Plan for the end of the year taxes, you can do your taxes now base on your last pay check stub and estimate the last quarter income, expenses and taxes. This is only a estimate but this will give you an opportunity should you not want to pay Uncle Sam a huge check. You may contribute more to your 401K, open up an IRA or increase your taxes to the State and Federal. Should you be 50 and over, this is a huge tax savings; you can play catch up and contribute money to your plans. Check with your Accountant or Tax Person.

Lazard’s ministry also assists women with conflict resolution, interviews, money management, obtaining a driver’s license, parenting skills and résumés. Women’s conferences are held, too. “My inspiration came from the Lord,” she said, “and the purpose is to remind women who they are in Christ.” According to Lazard, the Bible says our latter days will be greater than our former. She declared, “we are royalty, and we’re daughters of the king.” She said women have to believe that and embrace it. “Seeing the fruit of your labor is very rewarding,” Lazard stated. “For example, we put a flier on the door, and a woman came because she was hungry. Now she’s a manager at a company. When you see these ladies graduating from college to become managers of companies to homeowners, born again Chris-tians, you can’t beat that. To God be the glory for that.” When she is not performing her queenly duties, Lazard serves as pastoral assistant at Progressive Church. Lazard also teaches English at United Theological Seminary to students pursuing their bachelor’s of theology. Producing the Miss Black Teen Louisiana Pageant is another calling for Lazard. It was es-tablished in 2006, and it is held in Lafayette. The winner receives an educational scholarship that varies depending on sponsors. It is usually held in the summer, but it will be in the winter this year for girls, ages 14-18. Asked what she is looking forward to, “At 50, I am looking forward to seeing more. I want to experience life, the good part of life, all the more,” she responded. “Looking forward to the next half cen-tury!” Lazard exclaimed. (F&S)

Drexel Margaret Green-Guidry President of the Broussard Chapter welcomed everyone in attendance. Master of Ceremony for this event was Lafayette City-Parish Councilman for District 4 Mr. Kenneth Bou-dreaux, Invocation and Benediction was said by Father Robert Seay, OFM Pastor of St. Paul Catho-lic Church-Lafayette, LADuring this event three honorees were given a Proclamation from the City of Lafayette by Mr. Ken-neth Boudreaux: Mrs. Mable Labbe (Mother of Father Clifton Labbe, SVD) who is 99 years old, walking, talking and looking great these days, Mrs. Gertrude Batiste and Mr. Roy Brown. Also, in attendance was the daughter of Mrs. Mable Labbe- Mrs. Gladys Arceneaux with family and friends, Mr. Ernest Nabors of Lafayette, LA a former teacher for two of the honorees Mr. Brown and Mrs. Batiste, the community well over 100 showed out with family and friends plus members of the Broussard Chapter and other Drexel Society Chapters such as: St. Martinville, New Iberia and Past National Treasurer Drexelair Brenda Andrus. Father Lambert Lein SVD blessed the food which was prepared by Rita Lewis Catering Svc. of Cade, LA- with soft jazz music playing.
