Schenn, L. – played 500th NHL game Oct. 30 at BUFVandeVelde – played 100th game as a Flyer Oct. 30 at BUF  RECENT GAME NOTABLES 11/7 at WPG The Flyers’ first-period power play goal from Brayden Schenn snapped a seven-game, 0-for-16 power play drought.  The Flyersavoided going eight straight without a power play goal for what would have been the first time since 1970.  Schenn now has five goalson the season, which is a quarter of his career high of 20 goals set back in 2013-14 over a full 82-game season. The Flyers also avoided going winless on a five-game road trip for what would have been the first time since 1982, per the Elias SportsBureau. Rakdo Gudas was credited with five blocks and three hits.  Twelve different Flyers contributed to blocking 19 Winnipeg shots in thegame.  11/5 at CGY Michael Raffl scored his first goal of the season, snapping a personal 16-game goalless streak. Sean Couturier returned to action after missing six games with an upper-body injury.  He played 19:31 and recorded two blocked shotswhile going 7-for-20 on faceoffs.  Wayne Simmonds led the Flyers with seven shots.  It was his eighth career game of seven shots or more and his first since he hadseven on Feb. 19, 2015 vs. Buffalo.  NOTES OF THE NIGHTMichal Neuvirth earned his third shutout of the season on Saturday, doing so in his seventh start.  Per the Elias Sports Bureau,Neuvirth is the first Flyers goalie to ever record three shutouts by his seventh start of the season.  Only two Flyers goaltenders haveever recorded three shutouts in a season before the November 7 mark – John Vanbiesbrouck, who did so in his 7th, 8th and 9th gamesof the year from Oct. 20-24, 1999; and Bernie Parent, who recorded shutouts in Games 1, 7 and 8 of the season on Oct. 11, 13 and 27,1973.  Neuvirth has a 1.81 GAA, which ranks fourth among 32 NHL goaltenders who have played 400 or more minutes this season, and a.945 save percentage, which is tied for first in the same group along with Jake Allen and Henrik Lundqvist.  Steve Mason has a 3.34 GAA and a .902 save percentage to go along with a 2-4-2 record.  In his six games where he’s played start tofinish, he’s had a 2.80 GAA and a .918 save percentage. Jake Voracek had four shots Saturday and now has 54 on the season, which ranks 12th in the NHL. He and Dustin Brown of LosAngeles (49 shots) still rank as the only two players in the league’s top 60 shot-takers that haven’t scored yet. The Flyers are tied for sixth in the NHL in average shots per game at 31.1.  At the same time, they rank 29th in the NHL at 1.93 goalsper game.  The Flyers are averaging one goal every 16.1 shots.  Meanwhile, the Flyers are 20th in the league with 2.79 goals allowedper game, but are 29th in shots against at 33.9.  The Flyers recorded two power play goals on Saturday, snapping an 0-for-16 drought that had spanned seven games.  Claude Giroux was 48-percent on faceoffs on Saturday, which was just his fourth game this year where he was below 50 percent ondraws.  Giroux is 59.6 percent on the year, which ranks fifth among 93 players who have taken 126 or more faceoffs.  He has been 60percent or better in six of his last nine games and has been above 70 percent twice this season.

Giroux picked up two assists Saturday and now leads the team in scoring with four goals and five assists for nine points.  Mark Streitis right behind Giroux with three goals and five assists for eight points.  Streit has three goals through the first 14 games; he had ninegoals in 81 games last year and 10 goals in 82 games the year before that.  Streit enjoyed a three-assist game Oct.21 in Boston, whichstarted a three-game scoring streak in which he had a goal and four assists for five points.  Through 13 games, Brayden Schenn already has a quarter of his career high of 20 goals set in 2013-14.  He recorded his 10th careertwo-goal game on Oct. 27 vs. Buffalo.  He did it four times last season, most recently on April 1, 2015 at Pittsburgh.

Dave Hakstol was named the 19th head coach in Flyers history on May 18, 2015.  Hakstol, 47 (7/30/1968), comes to the Flyers from the University of North Dakota, where he served as the head coach of the school’s hockeyprogram for 11 seasons.  During that time, Hakstol’s teams posted an overall record of 289-143-43 (.654). The Warburg, Alberta native ledUND to the NCAA postseason in each of his 11 seasons, including seven appearances in the NCAA Frozen Four, most of any program in thecountry during that span.  North Dakota won three regular-season conference titles under Hakstol (WCHA 2008-09 and 2010-11; NCHC 2014-15). BLOCK PARTY As of Monday (Nov. 9), Colorado was leading all NHL teams with 256 blocked shots.  The Avs blocked 30 shots in their victory overCalgary on Nov. 3, and earlier in the year, set a franchise record with 41 blocked shots on Oct. 16 at Anaheim.  Francois Beaucheminleads the team with 38 blocked shots.  MITCHELL SETS AVS RECORD FOR SEASON-OPENING GOAL STREAK John Mitchell opened the year with a four-game goal streak, becoming the first Avalanche player to ever score goals in each of the firstfour games of a season.  He was the third player in franchise history to accomplish the feat, joining Quebec's Michel Goulet (1983-84)and Mats Sundin (1992-93).  Sundin did it his first five games of that 1992-93 campaign.  Mitchell's four-game goal streak was a newcareer high. FAST STARTS ON THE BACK END Francois Beauchemin recorded five points (0g/5a) in his first two games, the most ever by an Avalanche defenseman over his first twogames of a season.  Only one Quebec defender had more, Kerry Huffman, who notched six points in two games to begin the 1992-93campaign.  With goals in his first two games, Erik Johnson became the first Avalanche defenseman to score in each of his first twogames of a season since Aaron Miller in 1996-97. BACK-TO-BACK The Avs have played two back-to-backs so far this season, going 1-1 in the first game and 0-2 in the second.  Colorado will play a totalof 10 back-to-back games this season after having 12 in 2014-15.
