The two man race for the one Philadelphia Charterguaranteed seat is drawing interest. The two are in-cumbent Joseph Duda and Al Schmidt.
Both have had close ties to the Republican City Com-mittee. Duda has been one of its leaders for years. AlSchmidt came in as the RCC’s Executive Directorand left to become one of the leaders of a contestinggroup of Republicans who wanted to see leadershipchanges in the Republican City Committee.
Last night Rep. John Taylor was the lead man in a
number of hosts who held a fundraiser at the UnitedRepublican Club in Kensington for Schmidt. Bothsides of the Republican coin attended, creating a lotof tension, but happily, no fights.
This general election marks the first in a long timewhere the second nominee to Duda has changed theplaying field. Schmidt is not sitting back and thatmeans he has engaged Duda in a two man race to seewho gets the most votes in the general election. Thatrace is now the key race as far as the GOP leaders areconcerned.
