1. PREAMBLE

The objective of the Ph.D. programs at Galgotias University is to produce high quality manpower

with

a) a broad grasp of the fundamental principles of science and scientific methods,b) deep understanding of their respective areas of specialization,

c) innovative ability to solve complex problems,d) the capacity to learn continually and interact with multi - disciplinary groups.

Students at Galgotias University are expected to develop the capacity for objective enquiry as wellas the awareness and sensitivity to the needs and aspirations of the society. The programs have

been designed to impart knowledge, strengthen concepts and intellectual skills through coursework, seminars and project/ dissertation work.

The PhD programs at Galgotias University intend to prepare students to take their professions witha perspective and breadth of knowledge related to the principal divisions of their respective fields

of specialization through courses and research experience. This brochure provides general

information sought by those seeking admission at Galgotias University in PhD programs. For rulespertaining to any particular issue, decision of the competent authority would be applicable.

2. ADMISSION ELIGIBILITY

All candidates seeking admission to the PhD program shall have to possess requisite marks/gradesin qualifying examination as indicated below:

A Masters degree from a recognized Indian University or any other equivalent degree to the

satisfaction of the Academic Council of the University, in the relevant field, with not less than 60%marks in aggregate or 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point scale or equivalent.

3. ADMISSION CRITERIA

Admission shall be based on:

a) Satisfying the requirements of minimum qualifications as laid down in clause 2.

b) Performance in Interview for those who have qualified in GATE/SLET/UGC/ CSIR (JRF)

examinations.

c) Performance in

i) PhD Entrance Test to be conducted by Galgotias University for all those who are not

qualified in any of the examinations mentioned in 3(b) and

ii) Subsequent Interview by the panel including Departmental Research Committee (DRC)members and other professors/experts appointed by the Dean of the concerned school.

d) Candidates are required to propose and discuss their research interests and research

hypotheses at the time of Interview.

e) The University reserves the right to limit the number of scholars to be admitted to theUniversity at any time. This decision would be guided by the resources and other

fiscal/facilities constraints.

f) The names of the short listed candidates will be forwarded to the Dean of the concerned

School.

g) Once approved by the concerned Dean, the student shall be allowed provisional registration

after he/she has paid the fees prescribed by the University.

4. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Application form may be filled online at www.galgotiasuniversity.edu.in. A downloaded hardcopy

of the same should be sent to the Registrar, Galgotias University, Plot No 2, Sector 17 A, YamunaExpressway, Gautam Buddh Nagar, 201308 Uttar Pradesh along with a demand draft of Rs 1100/-

drawn in favor of 'Galgotias University' payable at Greater Noida/Noida. Application form may also

be obtained from the office of Admissions, Galgotias University, Uttar Pradesh against a demanddraft/cash deposit on every working day.

5. MINIMUM RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

The residency requirement for Ph.D. students is 1 to 4 semester(s) subject to the completion of

assigned course work.

A Research Student/Candidate shall be required to pursue his/her research work under the

guidance of approved supervisor(s) and the course work specified by the Doctoral Committee at

the University Schools. The Board of Studies (BOS) may also permit a research student/candidate

to carry out a part of the research work outside the University at a Research Centre approved bythe Academic Council (AC).

6. ADMISSION TO PART-TIME STUDIES

Professionally employed personnel such as working engineers, scientists and teachers may beallowed to pursue Ph.D. on part-time basis. Such candidates are required to submit a No Objection

Certificate from their parent organization/department/employer stating that he/she is permitted

to pursue studies on a part-time basis and that his/her duties permit him/her to devote sufficient

time for research.

Part-time studies leading to Ph.D. may also be permitted to persons working in universities/

research centers with which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed for researchpurposes.

7. REFUND OF SECURITY DIPOSIT

If a student does not join the Ph.D. program after paying the prescribed fees and leaves the

institute, only security deposit as applicable shall be refunded, provided a written application ismade by the student to the Vice-Chancellor.
