Why do you want to become a pharmacist?

I believe that people enjoy talking to me, because I am a good listener and have good understanding. Also, the study of medicines and drugs has always been one of my interests, and I would like to do have a job that I would enjoy in the future therefore I have chose this course.

Why did you choose Nottingham? This is because the university of Nottingham has a great reputation for pharmacy; also from information online, the facilities at the school of pharmacy there are very advanced.

I visited the city of Nottingham many years ago, and I remember it being very pleasant and beautiful city, where this is another incentive for me to to apply.

What can you bring to the universityI would like to join many different extra curricular activities at Nottingham, and sooner or later I would like to try help organizing events. I am passionate about tennis.

What achievement are you most proud of?This would be completing the HKAYP, which is the a challenge split in to 3 2 day hikes, consisting of many challenges and skills involving teamwork. I am very proud of completing this challenge, as I have learnt and improved many skills such as teamwork, as well as met many friends. Violin

Favorite and least favorite subjects

I really enjoyed studying biology, chemistry alone with maths. The topic of medicines and drugs in chemistry I have just started learning is one of my favorite because I find it very interesting.

My least favorite subject would be English, as I am not really a language based person, but a scientific or maths based, as I like to solve problems.

Strengths and weaknessesI have good communication skills and dont have problems talking to anyone. I am also a good listener, as I like to think I am a patient person. I also have good problem solving skills.

But, I would like to improve my leadership skills, as leading a football team last year didnt go well to plan.

Where do you see yourself in five years?Ideally I would be working in a community pharmacy five years later, but I could be working as a pharmacologist instead. I would also like to have joined a local football or tennis team.

Imagine an angry and a stupid customer. How would you deal with each one?I try my very best to provide a perfect customer service. I will be very focused and try to understand the mood of the client as soon as possible, so I can adjust my behavior to the situation. If the client is angry, I calmly tell him he is right, even if he complains about the price of the product.

If a client is stupid, I do my best to use the simplest possible language and always write him the instructions on a separate piece of paper clearly. I repeat it until I ensure he understands everything. I simply do my best to ensure clients come back to our store and become loyal customers, what is after all, dependent mostly on the quality of customer service.

Do you keep up to date with current pharmacy practice, new drugs and trends in the industry?

When traveling home from school, I usually check news regarding medicines and drugs on pharmacy times and recently I read that a new antifungal drug called Cresemba was approved by the fda. Also read an article about pharmacists encouraging smokers to quit smoking slowly first by transferring to e cigarettes which are less harmful to the body. I also try to attend conferences at universities when the topic is relevant, just like the one I have attended at the university of hong kong on the pluripotent stem cells hosted by nobel prize winner shinya yamanaka. I like pharmaceutics a lot, so it is a pleasure for me to do these things.

Difference between pharmacy and pharmacologyPharmacology is the study of drug interaction in living organisms. Learning how a drug interacts in the human body, for example, a drug that only affects certain parts of the brain, or specific organs, but not others, due to the molecular structure of the molecule.

Pharmacy is a profession that ensures the safe use of medication and deals with patients, therefore pharmacists will need to have a wider knowledge of how a drug works, how it's formed and its side effects.

What do you think are some problematic situations that can occur in your daily job of a pharmacist?

A pharmacist has to talk to all kinds of people, old and young, nice and angry, clever and stupid. It may be very difficult sometimes to help a patient, but I work have been working a lot on my communication skills, to be able to talk to everyone in a most appropriate way. I also like to undergo challenges in life therefore I think that this job will be suitable for me.

Work experience/why not another health related professionHome for the elderly, helped talking to the elderly, and also helped pharmacist there for organization work, spiked my interest for being a pharmacist.

Physiotherapist work experience at northeastern hospital, very enjoyable, however I prefer a profession studying medicines and drugs instead as studying it in secondary school was very entertaining.

Why should we offer you a place?I am a dedicated student, which would strives to learn. Also I have aspirations regarding being a pharmacist which can only be completed after studying at a university with good reputation, therefore I would really like a place to study in the university of Nottingham.

What do you think pharmacys greatest challenges are in the future?Strong and mutating diseases, Hong Kong Influenza outbreak, ebola

Favorite course?Asthma, mum has asthma, could give her advice

InsulinInsulin is a protein hormone comprised entirely of amino acids held together by peptide bonds. Your stomach contains proteases and pepsidases, both of which are enzymes that turn big proteins into their individual amino acid components. Your stomach pH is low (2.5ish). This acidic medium would destroy the conformation of the insulin by itself. So we gotta inject to bypass the wonders of our stomach.

DiabetesA disorder of the metabolism causing excessive thirst and the production of large amounts of urine.Diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in your blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly. This is because your pancreas doesnt produce any insulin, or not enough insulin, to help glucose enter your bodys cells or the insulin that is produced does not work properly (known as insulin resistance).

ConsequentialsmThis theory can be simply defined as 'the endsalways justify the means' Acts are considered right or wrong based on how good or bad the outcomes of those acts are (1). Consider a simple example:

A mother would like her to daughter to focus on her homework. To ensure this, the mother tells her daughter that the television show her daughter watches daily will not be aired tonight. However, this is not the truth. The daughter focuses on her homework instead of watching television, and completes her schoolwork as a result.

According to the theory of consequentialism, it was right for the mother to be dishonest, since the outcome was a good one.

Deontology

The theory of deontology is summarized as follows: 'the ends neverjustify the means.' Acts are considered right or wrong intrinsically, regardless of the outcomes (1,2). Considering the example given above of the mother and daughter, the mother would have committed a wrong act according to the theory of deontology. This is because the mother lied to her daughter, and lying is considered unethical regardless of the outcome it may lead to.

Deontological views are quite prominent in many religions and circles of belief. The Ten Commandments are a quintessential example of a deontological viewpoint (2). The commandments of 'thou shalt not lie' and 'thou shalt not kill' are considered right in every situation, without concern for the outcome.
