shook the image out of her head.
“I don’t know if I like this.”
“Why?” Nanashi asked.
“I feel like I am about to fall,” Lyris swallowed.
“Then I will catch you.”
Lyris jumped, “What did you say?”
“Nothing,” Nanashi answered, “I was just thinking about
your words. Why?”
It wasn’t his voice that troubled her. It was different,
more elusive.
“But I am right here.”
Lyris stopped and closed her eyes. It was the same voice
that had spoken to her in the shower, but it was closer to her:
in the room with them perhaps.
“Nanashi, are we alone?” she asked.
“We are never really alone,” Nanashi answered. “You feel
another presence in the room?”
Lyris trembled.
“I feel it as well,” Nanashi continued. “Present, but
somehow elusive.”
“My thoughts exactly,” Lyris wandered around the room.

“It frightens you,” Nanashi said, “Why? Has it threatened
you in any way?”
“Well, no,” Lyris paused. Something brushed across her
back. Spinning around, nothing but the fog. “Is someone else
in the room?”
“Not fully, but someone is looking for you.”
“What does that mean?”
“A powerful mind is searching the heavens for you. They
are having a hard time holding you in sight.”
Frost ripped through Lyris. In the center of the circle,
an eye peered out at her.
“Nanashi...” she struggled to point at the sculpture, “Is
that what’s looking for me?”
“Viu Ori-aa!” Nanashi gasped, “That watches what watches
you!”
“What?” Lyris gasped.
“Extinguish the candles before it can send another worm!”
Lyris vaulted toward the table. Something pushed against
her, trying to hold her back. She slapped the first candle with
her palm, and jerked it away from the heat.
Ignoring the pain, and the ghostly hands that pulled on

her, she smashed and blew out the candles as quickly as she
could.
Darkness swallowed the blazon circle and engulfed the room.
A thump behind her like something hitting the floor.
The overhead light flickered to life.
Nanashi stood by the door, staring intently at the
sculpture. “You have interesting admirers,” he said.
“Do you know who that was?” Lyris hoped.
“No...” Nanashi smiled at her, “But we can find out.”
“After that, I don’t know anymore. I thought it would be
fun, not... well.”
“Maybe next time.”
Lyris stiffened up
“What is it?” Nanashi asked.
“Nothing,” Lyris shook her head, “When do we start?”

Onur waved his hand before Urso’s eyes, “Is everything alright?”
“Of course,” Urso shook his head, “Why wouldn’t it be?
Where was I?”
“You were telling me that some believe the Lueya to be a
key. What does it unlock?” Onur asked.

“The legends don’t say.”
“Is there more than one?”
“O my, yes, many...” Urso sighed, “Most of them have been
lost over the centuries. A few are in reliquaries around the
galaxy.”
Onur looked down at the Lueya, watching the light flashing
around in the twin cages, “You don’t believe it’s a key, do
you?”
“No, I believe they are scepters once used by long
forgotten kings,” Urso chuckled, “But what do I know. I am just
a stupid prize fighter.”
“Something the matter?” Onur asked.
“O, no,” Urso sighed and shook his head, “Where were we?”
