Who it is for

Eligibility criteria

The purpose of Sentinel North doctoral scholarships is to encourage top applicants to undertake or pursue doctoral studies within the Sentinel North (SN) research program in a transdisciplinary environment.

Holders of a Master’s degree who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. program at Université Laval.

Applicants must meet all the following conditions to be eligible for the program:

• Be registered or to plan to register in a Ph.D. program at Université Laval • Be supervised by a research supervisor and co-supervisor from different disciplines or have an

agreement with a research supervisor and co-supervisor from different disciplines to supervise the doctorate

• Be supervised by at least one professor who is participating in one of the research projects funded by SN

• Present a Ph.D. research project whose results and outcomes have potential applications and impact in the North, consistent with the conceptual framework of SN’s research program.

• Have at least a B grade point average (3.0/4.3) at the bachelor’s level and an A- (3.67/4.3) at the master’s level

• Provide proof of co-funding of at least $3,000/year from the research supervisor or co- supervisor, or from other sources (private funds, foundations, etc.)

• To remain eligible for funding during their Ph.D. program, applicants must maintain full-time student status at Université Laval.

Application procedure

Send your application and all the required documents listed below in one email to formation@sn.ulaval.ca. The subject of your message must begin with your last and first names and clearly state the name of the program you are applying for.

• A copy of your university transcripts (bachelor’s and master’s)• A copy of award letters or attestations of all scholarships you have received while pursuing

university studies (where applicable), other than those from federal and provincial grantingagencies

• A recommendation letter from your UL research supervisor or co-supervisor providing an overallassessment of you as an applicant and the funds that will be available to carry out the researchproposal, along with co-funding opportunities

The two (2) reports on the candidate by the sponsors (other than the research co- supervisor) must be sent directly to Sentinel North: formation@sn.ulaval.ca.

Explain why you want to pursue graduate studies. Explain how your research proposal relates to your previous work and list the skills that will allow you to conduct a research project in a transdisciplinary environment (maximum 3,500 characters, including spaces).

a) PublicationsBeginning with the most recent, list your refereed publications such as papers, conference summaries, proceedings, published books or chapters ofpublished books. Submitted papers will be considered only when a copy of the publisher's acknowledgment of receipt is provided. Papers accepted forpublication must include the publisher's notice. Mark peer-reviewed publications with an asterisk. Where applicable, indicate specific departmental policiesconcerning publications. Submitted articles may be considered only if accompanied by a copy of acknowledgement from the editor, and articles acceptedfor publication must be accompanied by notification from the editor (acknowledgments of receipt are not required for published articles). Pending articlesare not taken into account if they have not been submitted.

b) Participation in research projects and training periodsDescribe your participation in research projects and training periods during your previous studies.
