In events. We have 155 current members, with
41 folks already paid up for 2020.
Electric Fly-In Recap. Harold Thompson
provided a brief recap of the Electric Fly-In
held on 5 October. There were 17 registered
pilots, and the event netted more than $500 for
the club.
Fall Swap Shop. Members were reminded that
our first Fall Swap Shop will be held on
Saturday 16 November starting at 9:00 AM.
The format will be identical to the spring event,
including our $5 breakfast featuring pancakes,
sausages, and Alan’s signature home fries.
Seller fees: $5 for a table, $4 if you bring your
own table or set up outside. Contact Alan
Goodman for details: (301) 509-8589,
400-Foot Limit. Rick Moreland reminded
everyone that the FAA and AMA are still
wrangling over the 400-foot altitude limit, and
that members should chime in with a message
to their representatives in Congress via the
AMA-supplied link
(www.modelaircraft.org/higher-flight).
Replacement Sign for Rt. 301. Alan reported
that our landlord (M-NCPPC) has fabricated a
new sign to replace the one destroyed this
summer by a vehicle crash at the corner of
Swanson Rd. and Rt. 301. Parks is waiting for
a new guard rail to be installed before replacing
the sign.
Ringmaster Fly-A-Thon. Tim LaNore
reported that our control-line contingent logged
587 control-line flights at the PGRC CL circle
during the national Ringmaster Fly-A-Thon on
5, 6 October. Way to go, gents.
Constitution and By-Laws. The attending
members voted to accept the recent update to
the PGRC Constitution and By-Laws. The
update reflects the current membership
structure and dues arrangement, and addresses
a few additional administrative changes.
Raffle and 50/50. Byron Jones won a Vapor
electric night flyer in the raffle. Pete Castine
was not present to claim $79.50 in the 50-50
drawing.
TUESDAY TRAINING. Our last Tuesday
evening training session for the year was held
on 29 October. We will resume the Tuesday
training sessions next spring with the return of
Eastern Daylight Time, where fledgling pilots
needing RC flight instruction, and current pilots
looking for help with setup or maiden flights,
are encouraged to come out to the field. As
always, we can use some additional
experienced members to assist.
FALL CLEAN-UP DAY. We have scheduled
a fall Clean-Up Day for Saturday 23
November, starting at 9:00, to remove leaves
and fallen branches from the parking areas,
access road, and around the house; and to
perform other chores to reduce the clean-up
workload next spring. The club will provide a
sumptuous lunch of hot dogs and sodas for the
workers. Please bring a rake and work gloves,
and come out and join the fun.
FIELD MAINTENANCE THANKS.
Weekly grass cutting and bush hogging are
done for the season, and our mowers and
tractor have been power-washed and put away
for the winter. Thanks go to our crew of
volunteers for their consistent efforts this year

for this important task: Rodger Binger, Rick
Moreland, Bob Gensler, Chic White, Roland
Jackson, Russ Sevigny, and Tom Gurlacz.
Also assisting us this year (and last year), until
the start of school in the fall, was Rodger
Binger’s granddaughter Samantha White, who
has become quite proficient in piloting the
zero-turn mowers. Thanks, again, to all.
WEB DEVELOPMENT / IT SECURITY.
We are looking for members who have web-
development and /or IT security experience to
help resolve a security issue with the PGRC
website. Please get in touch with our
Webmaster Byron Jones ([email protected])
if you can provide assistance.
FOUND BATTERIES. Earlier this summer,
we reported that two LiPo battery packs -
Flight Power 2100 mAh 3 cell, Glacier 3300
mAh 4 cell. - were found at the pavilion.
These have yet to be claimed. Contact Charlie
Gettier if they belong to you.
Show and Tell. Much to the amusement of all in attendance, Stoney Jasper (center) showed off his new “bling” at the October meeting. The stunning accessory consists of a Cadillac medallion – apparently retrieved from an accident site – and, instead of gold chain, Stoney used a length of steel utility chain from Home Depot. Indeed, quite the fashion statement. Rick Moreland photo
Chipping. On 30 October, Chic White, Rick Moreland, and Tom Gurlacz (above), along with other members of our field maintenance crew, cleaned up brush from where we have been trimming overhanging branches and vines from the trees around the perimeter of the field. After five straight hours of feeding the rental chipper, a bunch of totally exhausted old men went home to recuperate. Rodger Binger photo.

New camera. In October, Bob Gensler and Charlie Gettier installed a new camera at the pavilion, looking out over the north side of the pit area toward the control-line circle across the field. Hourly snapshots from this camera are being posted to the PGRC website, along with those from the south-facing camera under the pavilion and the Kiosk camera. Thanks go to Byron Jones for making the necessary modifications to the website.
