Pathfinder TODAY, Volume 6, #1 PAGE 3

Every Pathfinder being baptized at the 2019 Chosen International Camporee will receive a free Pathfinder Bible! Yep! That’s right! This full-color, high-quality Bible has not only some cool Pathfinder history and a special stewardship section that gives interesting and full-filled activities to help Pathfinders learn how to manage their lives God’s way. That’s what stewardship is all about! Whether it’s your time, abilities, money and possessions, relationships, or the earth and its creatures, God has given us guidelines for a right way and a wrong way to manage them. To get your free Bible, you have to register to be bap-tized here at the Camporee. (Unfortunately, it doesn’t count if you got baptized before the Camporee or even plan to afterward.) On the night of your baptism, you will receive your Bible immediately before beingbaptized. You’ll have it with you when you get your bap-tismal picture taken. Two colors are being offered (see pictures above). The Bible is a gift of the North American Division and General Conference Stewardship Ministries Departments. We are so proud of your decision to follow Jesus and we just want to help you grow in your relationship with Him. Can’t wait to see you at your baptism!

Pastor Chandler is passionate about ministry, but he is even more passionate about family. After years of dedicated pursuit, God gave him the desire of his heart and a partner in life, his wife Tanzy Chandler. They later expanded their tribe with the addition of their daughter Zoe, and sons Salem and Levi. World Record AttemptsThere will be many opportunities to set World Records at the 2019 Camporee. See below for information about each.

Roger (19) and Ariel (18) are from the Do-minican Republic, and now live in Cleveland, Tennessee. Roger is in his third year of college studying mass communications, has played violin for almost 14 years and likes video editing, baseball, electric violins and cats. Ariel is studying to become a nurse practitioner, has played piano for 13 years, and likes video games, basketball, jazz piano and the family dog (Leo).

They have both been in the Bowman Hills Pathfinder Club for about nine years. To them it means strengthening old friendships and hopefully forging new ones, but most of all, strengthening others and themselves in God. In 2014 they went to the Forever Faithful International Camporee. When they heard the theme song for that year and how it was se-lected, they knew they had to write one for the next camporee. It was always on their bucket list to write a song and they decided this would be a perfect opportunity. The fact that it was a contest for an event this important to them made them really want to try. Reflecting on the process they said, “For years we wanted to write this song, but we believed that God would send us the right idea at the right time. We finally got the inspiration we needed, and went through a bunch of trial and error to get this song right. As soon as we had this current draft, we knew that it was a gift from God, and we hope that it makes people feel like they were all chosen to carry out God’s mission for their lives.”

SCAVENGER HUNT

From Tuesday, August 13 to Friday, August 16, the Big Idaho® Potato Truck will be making an appearance at Oshkosh. Originally built by Chris and Sharolyn Schofield of Weiser, Idaho with the help of a few spe-cialized contractors, this truck weighs more than four tons (the equivalent of 21,562 medium-sized Idaho® potatoes) and is the world’s largest potato on wheels. If this potato were real it would make over 20,217 servings of mashed potatoes, almost 1 mil-lion (970,380) French fries, and would weigh 802 times more than the largest potato ever grown, which clocked in at 11 pounds. The Big Idaho® Potato Truck is currently on its eighth national tour. The tour began back in March and by the time it finishes the truck will have traveled ap-proximately 25,000 miles and visited more than 60 cities. In fact, it has been the main at-traction in several parades and festivals across the country in-cluding Thunder Over Louisville (KY); the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C., and NASCAR Poconos Raceway.

“The Big Idaho® Potato Truck has become the cornerstone of the Idaho Potato Commission’s marketing program,” explained Frank Muir, President & CEO, Idaho Potato Commission (IPC). “By promoting the truck in our national advertising campaign, participating in events with hun-dreds of thousands of attendees, and making stops at key retail

and foodservice operations, we’ve been able to engage millions of consumers of all ages across the country.” While on tour, the Big Idaho® Potato Truck has been helping dozens of charities with their charitable program, “A Big Help-ing.” As they travel throughout the country, the Truck’s man-agement team identifies local charities to receive a $500 dona-tion via a Signature Board that’s

set up at the events the Truck visits. In the past recipients have included food banks, children’s hospitals and animal shelters. “We already know that the Truck brings smiles to people wherever it goes but now it’s also helping people and that feels pretty good,” said Muir. This truck could not run without a team. This year’s Tater Team is made up of three people who love to travel–especially in a giant spud! Kaylee, a Boise State University alum, is on board for her third tour and is anxious to travel alongside her best friend. Jessica, the best friend and University of Idaho alum, is an outgoing Boise native who brings fun to this #TaterTwin duo also for the third year. The driver, Melissa (Spud Racer), is a native Idahoan who is excited to travel all over the country with the Tater Twins. To learn more about the Truck and see a calendar of all its ap-pearances, visit the Truck’s official website at BigIdahoPotato.com.

In the search for balance and restoration, we turn to the healing ministry of Christ as our example. As we walk the path to wholeness, CREATION Life principles serve as our guide. And that path to wholeness is marked for us all by the biblical principles of Choice, Rest, Environment, Activity, Trust

in God, Interpersonal Relationships, Outlook and Nutrition. Life-affirming transformation happens when we dwell in the presence of God.

Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), the faith-based international hu-manitarian arm of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has created a one-of-a-kind hu-manitarian pin for Pathfinders to add to their uniforms. This pin will be offered for a limited time only at the 2019 International Pathfinder Camporee at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, from August 12 to 17. The ADRA pin was designed in the shape of a star with three-pronged points symbolizing the mental, spiritual, and physical elements of a full education. The pin also consists of two parts: a smaller, top piece, and a larger, back piece. When connected, the smaller, top piece, with a flick of a finger, will swirl. The word “Chosen” is embossed on the smaller top piece to match the camporee’s theme, along with ADRA’s education campaign, “Every Child. Everywhere. In School.” “ADRA’s pin represents the problem that kids missing out on school is global—and so is the solution,” said Matthew Siliga, vice president of marketing and development at ADRA. “No matter where a child lives, ADRA will work hand in hand with our Adventist educa-tors, women’s, youth and children’s ministries, and with UNICEF and international govern-ments, to ensure every child, everywhere has the chance to go to school,” Siliga said. Collecting pins has been a Pathfinder fa-vorite since the camporee’s start in 1985, and earning an ADRA pin will be a bonus for the more than 50,000 Pathfinders attending.

How to Earn the Pin

§ Pathfinders must be in attendance at the 2019 Pathfinder Camporee.

§ Look out for ADRA booths on the campus to sign up.

§ Pathfinders who collect 20 signatures for ADRA’s education petition will receive the smaller top piece embossed with the word “Chosen” and ADRA’s education theme “Every Child. Everywhere. In School.”

§ To earn the larger back piece and com-plete the ADRA emblem with the spin-ner, Pathfinders must collect 50 signa-tures for ADRA’s education campaign.

§ Pathfinders who collect 100 or more signatures will receive an exclu-sive gold edition ADRA pin.

ADRA is currently launching a global campaign to show support for the 262 million children around the world who are currently out of school. Everyone is invited to show support by visiting ADRA.org/InSchool and signing up, and sharing the petition on social media.

About ADRAThe Adventist Development and Relief Agency is the humanitarian arm of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Its work empowers communities and changes lives around the globe by providing sustainable community development and disaster relief. For more information, visit ADRA.org.

CAMPOREE HYGIENEGeneral Hygiene § Wash hands often throughout the

day. § Bring hand-cleaner or wet wipes for

use before meals and after use of the portable toilets.

§ Sneeze or cough into your shoulder rather than covering your face with a hand.

§ Each club, conference and union is to keep their ground clear of all trash (small or large) at all times.

Toilet Hygiene § In this country, toilet seats are made

to sit on, over the hole or water basin. Paper is used to wipe and put into the toilet. Do not squat on the floor or drop used paper on floor.

§ Portable toilets (in rows outside) do not flush. Close the seat when done to keep flies out.

§ Toilets in the shower houses must be emptied with water before you leave. Push down on the handle to flush. Always wash your hands at a basin before leaving the bathroom.

§ Do not urinate or defecate anywhere other than the toilets. We all want to enjoy camp and leave healthy.

Shower Hygiene § Showers are made for washing your

body. § Shower for less than five (5) minutes

so all get a chance to be clean. § Never use a shower as a toilet. § Never use a shower to wash dishes or

clothes.

Shower Supervision § Help keep showers clean by leaving

them cleaner than you find them. Cleaning personnel will clean down twice daily.

§ To help everyone use showers ef-ficiently, all Pathfinders must be accompanied and supervised by an adult staff to enter the shower facility.

§ Any person who is already in line for a shower that needs to use the port-a-let is to be allowed to return to their saved spot. Otherwise, no holding spots or cutting in line.

§ Please report any bathroom cleaning concerns to the shower personnel who will be on duty from 6 a.m.–midnight at each facility.

§ No RVs/camping facilities of any type are to be plugged into any shower facility.

Tips from your Medical Team

Prayer was so important to David. He spent much time in prayer talking to God about his fears, challenges, mistakes, and for God’s guidance.

At the Chosen Camporee, we want prayer to be a cornerstone for all that happens here. Friend-ships nurtured, growth opportunities encountered, knowledge acquired, re-quests on our hearts, and

spiritual decisions made will only be enhanced if they are bathed in prayer. To help make prayer a focal point for our Camporee we have prayer tents available to our Pathfinders. You can find the prayer tents by looking for the pray-ing hands symbol on the Camporee map.

Special Pathfinder Anointing Services

Pathfinders who have been selected for anointing by their Pathfinder Club leaders will be anointed at the anointing prayer tent in 10–15-minute services every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sabbath except for Sabbath morning. An anointing pin will be given to those Pathfinders who have been selected for this spiritual service.

Calling All Club Chefs!

Hulando ShawFor the past 30 years Hulando has worked in just about every aspect of youth ministry, including Pathfinders and AYM, and is now a member of the Northeastern Conference Youth Advisory Council. He was born in the Caribbean and later moved to the United States as a teenager. During his transition to a plant-based diet he found it difficult to find anything to eat, so he decided to make his own meals. It was there his passion for cooking developed and Real Veggie was born. This led him to Amazing Facts Col-lege and then to Wildwood College of Health in Georgia. There he learned the value of a plant-based diet and that eating healthy restores the body and the mind. Health is not just about the diet but more so about the lifestyle. He has cooked for different places such as the United Nations, Bon Appetit (Andrews University Dining Services), Laurelbrook Academy and North-eastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. He now lives in Queens, New York, with his lovely wife, Donna, and children Nathanael, Abigail and Hosea. He spends his days doing what he loves, preparing tasty Real Veggie meals at the family business, Real Veg-gie Café.

Juding will take place west of Hangar D by the Food Court.

Come and participate in this new and exciting special event at this year’s Chosen International Pathfinder Camporee. It’s a fun-filled activity specifically targeting that important, yet often forgotten, member of the team, the club chef. We want to have our chefs showcase their talents and be appreciated for all the tasty, healthy food they provide for their clubs. And, the best part is that everyone can be a winner, since this is a non-elimination competition.

Serving Others with the

Gift of LanguageFor Regiane (Anne) Hsu, one of the interpreters, this will be her first time attending Camporee. Anne is a teacher from Brazil who currently lives in China. She moved to China in 2011 to learn the Chinese language. Prior to moving there, she had been working as a Portuguese and English teacher in Brazil. Once in China, Anne helped one of the churches there to start a Pathfinder club. In fact, that club is also here at Camporee

for their first time. In 2013, Anne went back home to Brazil where she stayed until returning to China in 2016. One year later, Anne was invited to help start another Pathfinder club in Beijing for the international church. By the grace of God, that club is still having weekly activities. When asked how she became involved

with interpreting Anne says, “Since my first contact with languages I just fell in love. I was in the 5th grade when I had English class for the first time. I used to translate songs on my own using my dic-tionary.” Some of her other experiences with language have included studying English for her bachelor’s degree, practic-ing other languages while in China, and working in Brazil as an interpreter for a Chinese company. Anne is excited to be serving as an interpreter at Camporee. She loves interpreting and enjoys being used by God to serve others with the gift of lan-guage. She hopes that her interpreting will “give others a message that comes from God to touch their hearts and change their lives.” After Camporee, Anne will travel back to China where she will continue working as a quality content moderator for Microsoft. She plans to continue living in China for the next three to five years, and is hoping to get her master’s degree while there.

She loves interpreting and enjoys being used by God to serve others with the gift of language

Interpreter InformationMain Stage evening programs will have interpreters available who will be interpreting the pro-gram into six different languages. It is important that each person brings their own portable FM Transmitter radio, to hear the interpretations. Portable FM Transmitter radios will not be provided by the International Camporee. Interpretation will be made available in the following languages during the Camporee by tuning into the following FM radio stations:

§ French 94.7 FM § Portuguese 90.7 FM § Spanish 93.5 FM

§ Korean 100.7 FM § Italian 95.3 FM § Mandarin 103.5 FM

Gary BlanchardWorld Youth Director

Pastor Gary and his wife Erica have three young adult children (Gary, Ben and Sierra). Erica is from Northern California and Gary is from Maine. “PG” as he is often called, enjoys long walks in the woods, reading the Bible, going on dates with his wife and talking with God. Pastor Gary has served as a Bible teacher, chaplain, youth pastor, district pastor and most recently as the Texas Conference Youth Director. His motto is “making ministers for the Master.” He loves seeing young people “rightly trained” and empowered to be God’s army of youth. Gary has traveled around the world preach-ing the Three Angels Message and inspiring young people to do the same. Some of his mes-sages can be viewed at rightlytrained.org and youngtexasadventist.org. Pastor Gary’s gifts are encouragement, preaching and leadership and he daily seeks to “walk in the Spirit” so that he can be a contagious reflector of Christ. His favorite Bible verse is 1 John 4:9 (NKJV), “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.”
