The Bossa Nova is a form of Brazilian music that came about in the late 1950's. It was originally played by Brazilian and American jazz musicians but is now popular all over the world. The rhythm of the bossa nova is derived from the Samba but has a softer and often slower feel. This makes it a perfect latin style for small jazz groups that might have to play in restaurants or hotels where volume is an issue.
