8:00am Holy Communion
10:30am Parish Communion*
The Order of Service is contained in the separate Service Book.
Opening Hymn*
1. At the Lamb's high feast we sing
praise to our victorious King, who hath washed us in the tide
flowing from his piercèd side; praise we him, whose love divine
gives his sacred blood for wine, gives his body for the feast,
Christ the victim, Christ the priest.
2. Where the Paschal blood is poured, death's dark angel sheathes his sword;
Israel's hosts triumphant go through the wave that drowns the foe.
Praise we Christ, whose blood was shed, Paschal victim, Paschal bread;
with sincerity and love eat we manna from above.
3. Mighty victim from the sky,
hell’s fierce powers beneath thee lie; thou hast conquered in the fight,
thou hast brought us life and light. Now no more can death appal,
now no more the grave enthral: thou hast opened paradise,
and in thee thy saints shall rise.
4. Easter triumph, Easter joy, sin alone can this destroy;
from sin's power do thou set free souls new-born, O Lord, in thee.
Hymns of glory and of praise, risen Lord, to thee we raise;
holy Father, praise to thee, with the Spirit, ever be.
Words: 17th-century form of Ad cenam Agni provide, translated by Robert Campbell (1814-1868) Music: Salzburg, Jakob Hintze (1622-1702), harmonised by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) (Ancient & Modern – 198)
Gloria
1. Glory in the highest to the God of heaven! Peace to all your people through the earth be given!
Mighty God and Father, thanks and praise we bring, singing Alleluia to our heavenly king;
2. Jesus Christ is risen, God the Father's Son! With the Holy Spirit you are Lord alone! Lamb once killed for sinners, all our guilt to bear,
show us now your mercy, now receive our prayer;
3. Christ the world's true Saviour, high and holy one,
seated now and reigning from your Father's throne: Lord and God, we praise you! Highest heaven adores: in the Father's glory, all the praise be yours!
Words: Christopher Idle (b 1938) Music: Evelyns, W H Monk (1823-1889) © Christopher Idle (Hymns for Today’s Church - 582)

Collect
Almighty Father, you have given your only Son to die for our sins
and to rise again for our justification: grant us so to put away the leaven of malice and wickedness
that we may always serve you in pureness of living and truth;
through the merits of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
First Reading – Acts 2.14a,22-32
On the day of Pentecost, Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: ‘You that are Israelites, listen to what I have to say: Jesus of
Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that God did through him among you, as you yourselves know – this man, handed
over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law. But God raised him up, having freed
him from death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power. For David says concerning him, “I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;
moreover, my flesh will live in hope. For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One experience corruption. You have made known to me the ways of
life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.”
‘Fellow Israelites, I may say to you confidently of our ancestor David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Since he was a prophet, he
knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne. Foreseeing this, David spoke of the resurrection of the
Messiah, saying, “He was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh experience corruption.” This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses.’
Second Reading – 1.Peter 1.3-9
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has
given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a
salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, even if now for a little while you have had to suffer various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith
– being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire – may be
5
found to result in praise and glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed.
Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for you
are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
Gradual Hymn*
Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus,
to reach out and touch him and say that we love him; open our ears, Lord,
and help us to listen; O, open our eyes, Lord,
we want to see Jesus!

Gospel – John 20.19-31
When it was evening on the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the
disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side.
Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’ When he had said this, he breathed
on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’
But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when
Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, ‘We have seen the Lord.’ But he said to them, ‘Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the
nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.’
A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’
Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my
God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.’
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in
this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

Offertory Hymn*
1. Guide me, O thou great Redeemer, pilgrim though this barren land;
I am weak, but thou art mighty; hold me with thy powerful hand;
Bread of heaven, feed me now and evermore.
2. Open now the crystal fountain, whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fiery cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through;
strong deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield.
3. When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside; death of death, and hell’s destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side; songs of praises,
I will ever give to thee.
Words: Arghwydd, arwain trwy’r anialwch, William Williams (1717-1791), tr Peter Williams (1727-1796) Music: Cwm Rhondda, John Hughes (1872-1932)

Post Communion Prayer
Lord God our Father,
through our Saviour Jesus Christ you have assured your children of eternal life
and in baptism have made us one with him: deliver us from the death of sin
and raise us to new life in your love, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Final Hymn*
1. Good Christians all, rejoice and sing!
Now is the triumph of our King. To all the world glad news we bring:
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
2. The Lord of Life is risen for ay:
Bring flowers of song to strew his way; let all the earth rejoice and say
3. Praise we in songs of victory
that Love, that Life, which cannot die, and sing with hearts uplifted high
4. Thy name we bless, O risen Lord,
and sing to-day with one accord the life laid down, the life restored:
