Hi y’all, my name’s Pete, and for Thanksgiving I would like nothing more than a pumpkin

pie!

I don’t want a store bought pumpkin pie, I want to make it

myself. What am I going to need?

My Grandmother’s recipe calls for:

• 1 15-oz can of pumpkin

• 1 14-oz can of sweetened condensed milk

• 2 eggs

• 3 teaspoons of Pumpkin pie spice

• 1/2 teaspoon of salt

• 1 pie crust

Alright, now we need to go buy the ingredients. I only have $15 to work with and I work hard for my money…it

doesn’t grow on trees ya know. let’s see if $15 is going

to be enough money.

The can of pumpkin costs $2.50. If we subtract $2.50 from $15 what are we left

with?

$15 - $2.50 = $12.50

So far we are on budget!

The can of sweetened condensed milk costs $3.00,

let’s do the math.

$12.50 - $3.00 = $9.50

We are still on budget, but will will be able to afford all of the ingredients? Let’s find out!

A carton of eggs is going to cost us $3.75. Let’s see if we still have enough money for

the eggs.

$9.50 - $3.75 = $5.75

Yess! We now have the eggs, but hold on, we still have 3

more ingredients left.

Pumpkin pie spice is going to cost us $1.35. Can we afford

it?

$5.75 - $1.35 = $4.40

Whewww, that was close, but we got the pumpkin pie spice.

Next on the list is the salt. The salt is going to cost $1.13.

Do we have enough money left to buy it?

$4.40 - $1.13 = $3.27

That wasn’t soo bad, but we still have to buy one more

item.

The final item is the pie crust, yumm! It is going to cost $3.25. Do we have enough money? It

will be close.

$3.27 - $3.25 = $0.02

Alright! We had enough money for all of the ingredients, and with $0.02 left over for our piggy bank!

Now we have to bake the pie.
