March 5th, 2012: a Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed by Fleming College, Trent University, City of Peterborough, County of Peterborough, Greater Peterborough Innovation Cluster, County of Haliburton and the City of Kawartha Lakes to pursue the creation of an International Centre of Excellence in Water Quality. March 22nd, 2011: MoU between GPIC And Regional Development Agency East Netherlands (OOST NV) - Connecting Knowledge Clusters Between The Netherlands And Canada October 2012: Consortium led by the Centre for Alternative Wastewater Treatment (Fleming College) and also includes Northern College, Confederation College and Centennial College. The consortium is part of a broader collaborative effort that includes Canadian Technology and Business Facilitators Inc. (CTBF). Canada - India water training consortium.
Water Strategy Regional Efforts
September 28th, 2011: Peterborough Economic Development together with GPIC organised a Water Sector Forum Including OCE, OCWA and Water Canada. September 30th, 2013: Peterborough Economic Development met with WaterTAP and the Ontario MEDTE / MRI (Water & Clean Tech Branch) to discuss Peterborough water supply chain opportunities. November 04th, 2013: Peterborough Economic Development sent a Letter of support to Fleming College Application to Technology Access Centre Program. January 30th, 2014: Peterborough Economic Development compiled the first draft of Peterborough Water Supply Chain report. February 3rd, 2014: Peterborough Economic Development will be meeting with Canada International Trade Services - Indian Water Market president to discuss water opportunities.

Water Quality Centre (WQC)
• Awarded a grant for $6.5 Million expansion from 2013 Canada Foundation for Innovation Largest Analytical facilities of it’s kind in the world • Dedicated to the development and application of innovative new techniques for the analysis of organic and inorganic contaminants at the isotopic, elemental and molecular scale. • Multidisciplinary facility that utilizes state-of-the-art instrumentation. • The focus of the Centre is the determination of trace quantities of inorganic and organic substances found in aquatic environments.

Institute for Watershed Science The Institute for Watershed Sciences aims to further the understanding of physical and ecological processes governing watershed function and to transfer the knowledge to support resource management decision-making
Paul Frost’s Lab of Fresh Water Ecology The Frost Lab conducts research on the biological stoichiometry in aquatic ecosystems.
Biological stoichiometry is the study of the balance of energy and multiple chemical elements in living systems. This approach is used to examine elemental differences between organisms and their environment.

Trent’s Natural Resources DNA Profiling & Forensics Centre
NRDPFC represents a partnership between Trent University and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.

The Centre for Alternative Wastewater Treatment
Promotes constructed wetlands and other innovative forms of wastewater treatment through applied research, education and demonstration projects.
• Fleming College’s premier research institute and promotes innovative forms of water and wastewater treatment technology through applied research projects, performance measurement and verification, education and training and demonstration projects. • CAWT has secured over $10M in funding to collaborate with industry and governmental partners to conduct research in the area of alternative forms of water and wastewater treatment.
