Peterborough is a Cathedral City and Unitary Authority Area in the East of England, with a population estimated in 2012 to be 186,400. Situated 75 miles (121 km) north of London, the city stands on the River Nene which flows into the North Sea approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the north-east.

The Heritage Festival features over 300 costumed re-enactors from some of the country’s top Living History groups from Bronze Age warriors to World War II airmen. Also, are included jousting.

The main arena will occupy the Cathedral Square with a packed programme of live period music, falconry displays and spectacular battle displays by the re-enactors. Costumed characters, including Henry VIII or Katharine of Aragon.

You can find a lot of local history societies, community groups and historic attractions. The period market is held on the main Cathedral green, while the craft fair on Cathedral Square provides other shopping opportunities.

You can relax with the family in the Children’s Zone – an activity area for the kids with jesters, storytellers, games and activities.
