About the Donors
Peter Young, BS ’80, is the chief executive officer for Chemcentral Group, the first paper and paper processing service agency in China. Established in 1983, the Group has grown into an international trade and investment organization with several branches specializing in paper industry products, chemical materials, real estate, ecotourism, and recreation.
Born in Hong Kong, Young moved to the United States with his family when he was a teenager. His wife, Lin, is from China, and the couple maintains a regular residence in Hong Kong. Lin has degrees in economics and management and formerly worked for Suzhou Television in Jiangsu, China.
Young supports Washington University because he believes the university provided him with a winning combination: a strong technical foundation in engineering and an ability to work with many people from different backgrounds. He explains, “One reason I chose Washington University was its central location within the United States, which allowed me to meet students and faculty from around the world. Even now, I attend gatherings of alumni in Hong Kong and China that continue to help build networks and friendships. I feel privileged to be able to pass that same experience on to a new generation of students.”

Peter and Lin Young Annual Fund Challenge
Peter and Lin Young have generously established a $250,000 challenge fund to support the Annual Fund for the School of Engineering & Applied Science.
Each year, tuition and income from endowments cover only a portion of the university’s operating revenue. The Annual Fund provides essential resources that help bridge the gap. These unrestricted dollars provide critical support for scholarships and fellowships, academic programs, faculty recruitment and retention, and the experiential learning opportunities that help Washington University students become the leaders of tomorrow.
The Young Challenge benefits engineering undergraduate and graduate students and supports the goals of Leading Together: The Campaign for Washington University. This generous commitment from Peter and Lin Young will encourage other alumni and friends to increase support of the School of Engineering & Applied Science Annual Fund and the exceptional learning opportunities that make Washington University one of the world’s leading centers of teaching and research.
