GLOBAL SCENARIO• Europe is the largest consumer of pesticides followed by Asia

• China, U.S., France, Brazil, Japan are the largest producer, consumer as well as trader around the world

• Most of the pesticides worldwide are used for fruit and vegetable crops

• In the developed countries pesticides mainly herbicides, are mostly used for maize.

• Maize and soybean pesticides occupied most of the pesticide markets in the USA

• In Europe, Germany is the largest producer and second largest consumer of pesticides.

• France is the largest pesticide consumer in Europe, followed by Germany

OVERVIEW :INDIAN PERSPECTIVE•India is the 4th largest producer of Agrochemical after USA, Japan and China

•As on 17/06/2011, 230 pesticides are registered under CIB

•Pesticide consumption in India is limited to about 25% of the arable land

•India is the second largest producer of pesticides in Asia.

•Total exports of pesticides is Rs. 9098 crore

•Total Agrochemical market in India Rs. 9890 crores

•The production is around 81,934 MT during FY 10 - 11
