Sul Peshwan, in population and military strength, is comparable to Wookum, Glendower, andSouth Pim. It is more stockade than city.

This chart shows a demographic emergency. 42% of the population is concentrated in thewarrior range (compare with the Afridhi at their height: 23.5%). It looks as if the Peshwah are forced to

kill off its own non-combatants, and to stop bearing children. This could only be a result of the Afridhiconquest and continuing harassment. The Peshwah will not long survive at this rate.

Interestingly, the Peshwah fear invasion through the east more than through the north, andthrough the north more than through the west! The west must be impassable to the Afridhi, and we

know that the north is very defensible (and very defended). On the other hand, the east lies under the

shadow of the Hills of Gor, from which the mountain-bred Afridhi could descend with ease.1

The Peshwah consist of a dozen horseclans2, of which the more influential warriors wear

loose clothes of rough, nubby silk, one of the few things for which the Peshwah willingly trade.3

They tend to be bandy-legged and sun-scorched, with skin like fine old leather and dark, dark

eyes. They do not carry nor use money.

The domesticated grazer plays a significant role in the Peshwah economy and religious life.4

The hide is worth 300 gp, and is especially valued for armour. The grazer used to be threatened by hide

hunters (the Fetch estimated 75 in the High Hak, summer 1025), but the Duke has promised the

Peshwah he would punish hide traders with execution. The hunters are a dying breed.5

    Some may yet

defect to the Afridhi, a deal which would save their hides (as it were).

The most savage Peshwah horseclan calls itself the Bortai.6 They are distinguished by their

small, round, target-type shields. Shepro spent his early years with them in the Plains of Hak, just

before Uthers rebellion (presumably fighting Afridhi). The Bortai have been pushed all the way acrossthe High Hak to the Dragonia border.

As of the end of 1024, the Peshwah Confidence Level was very low, as they were questioning

their leader openly and loudly. The Hand of the People was Bortai, but of unknown origin.7 The

state of the Peshwah leadership to-day is unknown, but in autumn 1025 they were still raiding Afridhi

    posts in the Plains.8
