• Peru is in South America.• Peru is surrounded by Brazil, Columbia,
Bolivia, Equator, Chile and the Pacific Ocean.• Peru is in the southern and western
Hemispheres.
What is the climate in Peru?
• It is hot in the jungle.• It is cool in the mountains.• Very few people live in the hot jungle.• Most of Peru is too dry, steep, or wet for
farming .• Very little rain falls in the Plains.
What food does Peru eat?
• The most important foods in Peru are potatoes, peppers and rice.
• Hundreds of potatoes grow in Peru.• Native Peruvians probably were the first ones
to grow potatoes.• Peruvians that live by the ocean often eat fish.• Corn on the cob is a favorite vegetable.

• Children start school at 6 and end at 16• Grade schools last 6 years• Children must go to primary and secondary
schools• 5 years of secondary school• Children draw pictures of where they live
Where Should You Visit in Peru?• People might want to visit the Andes
mountains• Also people might want to visit the Amazon

WHAT NATURAL RECORCES DOES PERU HAVE?
• At hot places, people live in wooden houses.• People also live in cement houses.• Many medicines come from Peru.• In stores kids help sell sweaters that they
make.
What Holidays Does Peru Celebrate?
• Fiesta is the Spanish word for festival• On Saint’s Day, church bells ring and they
celebrate with fireworks and parades• Carnival lasts three days and three nights and is
celebrated before Lent. They dress up in costumes and masks and dance, eat, and drink
• Inti Raymi means Festival of the Sun was a special day for the Incas. This day honored the sun.

• Every body builds their houses• People also build boats • People make clothes
WHAT ARE PERU’S SPORTS AND GAMES
• Soccer is a popular sport in Peru• Children and adults play soccer• Bullfighting is very popular in Peru• Sapo is a popular game – players place a metal
toad on the table and then try to throw game pieces into the toads mouth. They play it in restaurants.
Animals in Peru• Llamas are very common• Many animals live in the Andes mountains such as
lions and deer• Monkeys, snakes and jaguars hide in the trees of
the jungle• More birds live in Peru than ANY OTHER
COUNTRY! Eg. Andean Condor is the most popular bird. There are also parrots and flamingos
• Andean foxes get their name from the mountains

• The language is called Quechua.• Taita/father.• Mama/mother.• Mana/no.• Ari/yes.
POPULATION
• Peru has more than 29 million people.• Lima has 8 million people.• About 45 percent of Peruvians are
descendants of the ancient Incas.
