• Paul Fourie – Road Planning BranchIn-depth planning study using long term population, land use and traffic forecasts to identify future road infrastructure requirements. Definition of road reservation for an ultimate road concept taking into account stakeholder, environmental and heritage issues.

• Dominic Boyle – Infrastructure Delivery DirectorateReview how much of the ultimate road concept needs to be built at this time. Get the project “delivery ready” including stakeholder engagement, environmental/heritage clearances and offsets, geotechnical investigations, preliminary design, funding approvals & land acquisition. Develop procurement strategy for construction.

Objectives & Benefits

• Cater for growth in demand for freight movements between Perth and the Northwest

• Little scope for further improvements to section of Great Northern Highway through the Swan Valley

• Improved freight efficiency / national productivity

• Reduce environmental & safety impact of heavy vehicles through Swan Valley

Funding

• State Government previously pledged $8M over three years to develop the project

• Submitted details to Infrastructure Australia January 2013

• State Government election pledge of $196M to commence construction in 2016

• Federal Government committed up to $418M in recent budget, contribution must be matched 50/50 by State

• State budget due in August
