John’s Persuasion Story
What I wanted: new golf clubs.
Context: Had no money.
John’s Persuasion Story
Story: It was Spring and golf season was upon us. I had some old clubs and really wanted new ones. The problem was I had no money, but I did have an idea--ask for them. So presented a my argument to my dad. It was his responsibility to provide for me, so he needed to buy me new clubs. My clubs were in bad condition and needed to be replaced. He didn’t buy it. But I am persistent. “But dad, it would make me happy, and don’t you want to see me happy?” Still didn’t work. He said I had to buy them myself. Finally, I resorted to a plan. Offer to mow the lawn all summer if I got the clubs early. I explained the cost of the clubs was less than moving the 20 times (the average for the summer). He agreed!
