Personal Introduction My name is David Cher, age 25 this year, and I am going to graduate with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) from NUS (National University of Singapore in July 2007. The usual path for people like me is to go for job interviews in order to find the “ideal job”. However, God has impacted upon my heart that this “ideal job” would involve a view towards serving long-term in Thailand. (Do read through Testimony of my calling to Thailand for more details) Why I am going? The question of “Why am I going to Chiangmai, Thailand?” brings me back to an exploration of my heart.

An extract from Testimony of my calling to Thailand:

“I am now very sure about God’s short-term plan forme are, that is to serve in Thailand from July 2007 toeither Dec 2007 or March 2008. Now, I am continuingto seek God with regards to His long-term plan for me(which I know is also Thailand). Then, 2010 came backto my mind and I believe that God will allow me to goback to Thailand long-term in 2010. At this point, doubts regarding finances entered my mind (how am Igoing to get sufficient finance for me to serve inThailand long-term?). Then, God again spoke to mefrom Matthew 14:31 which says, ‘Immediately Jesusreached out his hand and caught him. “You of littlefaith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”’ God is telling menot to doubt and He will provide for my needs to startserving long-term in Thailand in 2010.”

I am going to Thailand because 1) I believe it is God’s Will for me to serve Him shortterm in Chiangmai, Thailand from July 2007 to Dec2007 or March 2008. 2) I am seeking after God’s Will for my long-term plansto serve Him long-term in Thailand. It is not that Icannot seek after God here in Singapore but that I feelthat I do have a real passion and heart for the Thaisand it is not only based on feelings and emotions. 3) I want to bless the Thais in Chiangmai with theknowledge of the Gospel. Gen 12:2 Romans 10:15

What I will be doing? My focus in Chiangmai will be on theUniversity students studying in Chiangmai.I will be forming relationships with themand at appropriate times/opportunitiestelling the Gospel directly or indirectly tothem. If it is also possible, my ministrywork may not be restricted to Chiangmaiand it would be dependent on God-givenopportunities to guide me to other areaswhere I can also be a blessing to thepeople in Thailand.

Success in witnessing is taking theinitiative to share Christ in the power of theHoly Spirit and leaving the results to God.

Personal needsAs I embark on this exciting yet very faithstretching “journey into the unknown”, Irequest that you who receive this letter dosupport me through

1) Prayer as I am sure that I will be facingnot only human but also spiritualopposition, according to Eph 6:10-13which says:”10 Finally, be strong in theLord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put onthe full armor of God, so that you will be able tostand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh andblood, but against the rulers, against the powers,

against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickednessin the heavenly places. 13 Therefore, takeup the full armor of God, so that you willbe able to resist in the evil day, and havingdone everything, to stand firm…. Do prayfor Thailand…. Pray for me to walkfaithfully and steadfastly in the Lord evenas I serve Him and minister to the Thai studentsin Chiangmai. In this light, also pray for me to beable to spend time with Him and to glorify Him inwhatever I do and that I will also be able to“confirm” His long-term plans for me to serve inThailand. I will be posting updates wheneverpossible and these updates will include prayerrequests so that you can be constantly prayingfor me.
