You can usually expect a late night rumble in Perry Barr on saturday night and this weekend will be no exception. This saturday, two fight-ers will go toe to toe for the wealther weight championship. Mayweather takes on manda-tory challenger Nizam Shak at the NEC Arena in what should be his first tough challange. Ni-zam Shak qualified for the fight by outpoint-ing, out working and outclassing Andreas Ko-telnik over 12 one sided rounds last October. This was a remarkable turn around for Nizam, from Birmingham, England whom 10 months ago was knocked out in 54 seconds by the fists of the columbian ‘Banger’ Ben Presley.

After the defeat Nizam teamed up with the famous Freddie Roach, training in L.A. “Now Shak is a new boxer and is ready to be a cham-pion said Freddie Roach”. Nizam hard work and big ambitions have finally paid of, he is now known all over world and is ready to be crowned as the champion. This will be a dif-ficult fight for Shak as Mayweather’s record speaks for itself, 41 Wins, 0 Losses, 25 KOs. Mayweather’s usual trash talk is on the high, as Shak counters back saying “ actions speak loud-er than words”. On the 16th of this month we will truely know who is the better man. Saturday 8.00 pm 16/10/10 date of fight. Written by Farhan Azad

Perry Barr support Asda’s Bag For LifeFrom recent polls Asda’s shoppers from Perry Barr have shown that this idea is going well. The scheme has been running for the past years, and is part of Asda pledge to reduce waste and help global warming. this means that shoppers do not have the oppertunity to take unlimited number of bags, as they have to purchase one for 5p, in hoping that cos-tumers re-use their bags or re-cycle them. Most people agreed this scheme is a positve step towards reducing the effects of global warming and encourage them to reuse bags.

Broadway school, one of the largest and most populated schools in Birmingham holding 1300 students, is preparing to be transformed into a modern and 21st century style school un-der the goverments building schools for the future programme. Deputy head teacher Ms Chagger, say, “ our school was built in the mid 1960, but under the building schools pro-gramme broadway should be complete within the next 12 months. Ms Chagger also stated that, “ the school will look very, very unique and will bring all our students and staff onto one building”. Development work, which is due to start at the start of the year, which will result in year 7 and year 8 in moving away from the historic site in Aston. The new building, when it is complete should give more opportunities for foreign students and people who want to study vocational courses such as Health and Social Care, constructive development skills etc.Broadway School has an excellent reputation for being a specialist language college which was acquired in 2005, with Spanish, Russian, French, German, alongside community lan-guages such as Urdu, Bengali, Gujrati and Hindi, which reflect the fact that the majority of the students are from an ethnic minority groups such as Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi. With the new site, under governments building schools for the future programme, teachers and local families are ex-pecting a major improvement in academic levels. Current teachers and sixth forners believe that this will encour-age new students to attend school on a regular basis as the attendance level has been poor in the previous years. The new site will consist of Apple Macs within every class-room which should motivate students to take notes dur-ing lessons, Ms Chagger believes that this aspect will de-finately make a change, and increase academic results.

The grand opening of the new site has not been con-firmed due to the setback of the bad weather experienced in December. The government is eager to complete the construction of the building and have an immediate im-port from the Aston campus. The Head teacher, Stated, “ Broadway will definetly be the best it can be, exceed-ing expectation and rising up in the ladder of rankings.Former student, Mohammed Shabul Miah, studied at broad-way school in the early 1990s spoke to a memeber staff, stressing the need for reform. Shabul Miah stated, “ when I was studying here thing were different to what they are now, we had one or two computers bewteen 30 students, which made things very difficult to find out information, but today, the development of education and the demand of it has made the goverment aware of need for education. Shabul Miah went on to study Computing Science in Aston University. Another student, Claimed that, “ Broadway school is full of intelligence, however dont get the same opper-tunities to students at private schools”. She went on to say that “ the development and refurbishing of the school will have a dramatic impact on students, mak-ing them motivated and make them feel important”.Broadway School have been given a fee Of £13 Mil-lion to complete the construction of the school, Broad-way already spending £3 million on temporary build-ings which will be removed once the completion of the school is done. The remaining fee will be spend on a new building, refurbishing old building and have a new fourth generation astro turf football pitch. Broad-way are on course, and should “be the best it can be.
