Blue Connection Art Gallery
After 5 Live! Featuring Millikin Art Student, Tyrone Perry
Friday, March 3, 5:00-7:30 pm Blue Connection Art Gallery, 117 N. Water St.
Millikin art student, Tyrone Perry is the featured artist during the month of March at Blue Connection. The title of his show is Unapologetically Black. His work explores the relationship between the issues regarding multiculturalism, self-identity, social isolation, and sexual frustration. With influences as diverse as Edvard Munch to Jean-Micheal Basquiat, his work predominantly consists of symbolism. Connecting a chain of events, to one image, begins to be understood as a sway of lust transforms into issues among society. A sense of corruption emerges, as the viewer is left with the limits of the world, through the perspective of the minority.
CFA Patrons Society
The Millikin University College of Fine Arts Patrons Society was created to benefit the over 600 Millikin student-artists participating in nearly 20 degree programs. The Patrons Society provides budget support and helps create special projects which might otherwise go unfunded. The society’s mission is to bring together the university and individuals who believe in the promotion and support of the fine and performing arts and the student-artist at Millikin University. If you would like more information about the Patrons Society, you can visit the web at:

Arranger Staff Sergeant Scott Ninmer joined "The President's Own" United States Marine Band in September 2014. Staff Sgt. Ninmer began his musical instruction on piano at age 4, trombone at age 8, and in composing and arranging at age 12. While in high school, Scott performed in the Decatur Youth Symphony Orchestra and studied trombone with Gary Shaw at Millikin University. After graduating in 2007 from Taylorville High School, he earned a bachelor's degree in jazz trombone performance in 2011 from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (UI). In 2013, he earned a master's degree in jazz composition from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. He studied trombone with Jim Pugh of UI and composition with Jim McNeely of the Manhattan School and Jonathan Tunick, the Tony, Emmy, Grammy, and Academy Award-winning Broadway orchestrator. Prior to joining "The President's Own," Staff Sgt. Ninmer was a freelance composer, arranger, and copyist in New York. Staff Sgt. Ninmer is responsible for the production of music that encompasses many styles and instrumental combinations, many of which are performed at the White House, in the Washington, D.C., area, and across the country during the band's annual concert tour.
Scott is the son of Ron and Jean Ninmer. Ron is Technical Services Manager/Team Leader at Millikin University and Jean is Director of choirs and bands at Taylorville Jr. High School. Scott’s sister, Breanna, is an elementary education major at Millikin University and clarinetist in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
This program of American music includes Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Bernstein’s “Profanation” from Symphony No. 1 and five compositions for band by Scott Ninmer; Idyll, Night Fall, The Long Road Home, The Wind in the Willows and his most recent work, Harlem Drive, written in 2016 for the Millikin University Symphonic Wind Ensemble.

After their mother's death, two estranged half-sisters discover a book of rare stamps that may include the
"crown jewel" for collectors. In this gripping tale, a seemingly simple sale becomes dangerous when all the
characters are willing to do anything to claim the rare find as their own.

Faculty Recital Series
Amy Catron, cello March 26, 4:00 pm
Kaeuper Hall
Free and open to the public
On March 26, cellist Amy Catron will present a recital, which will conclude
the faculty recital series for 2016-2017. The program will include the Sixth
Solo Cello Suite, BWV 1012 by John Sebastian Bach. Originally composed
for violoncello piccolo with five strings, this suite has become one of the
most virtuostic pieces in the cello repertoire. Catron will also give the
world première of Particle 1 for solo cello by composer Robert Chumbley.
Robert Chumbley has a distinctive and elevated profile in many musical
disciplines: composition, conducting, and piano and vocal coaching. Particle 1 was commissioned by
Chumbley's friend and renowned cellist, Nicholas Anderson. He passed away suddenly before the work was
completed. So the final movement, Elegy, is a tribute to Anderson. The recital will conclude with the
Sonata for Piano and Cello, Op. 69 by Beethoven. Catron will be joined by pianist and Millikin faculty, Silvan
Negrutiu in this work composed very near the time of Beethoven's monumental Fifth Symphony. The Sonata
is dedicated to Beethoven's amateur cellist friend, advisor and supporter, Baron Ignaz von Gleichenstein.
After this, Beethoven asked Gleichenstein to help find Beethoven a wife!
