Location and access:
The area is accessed by the Sandy Lake Road (locally known as the "dump road"). Vehicles may be parked at the southerly limit of Sandy Lake Road where it intersects the hydro line, near the barite mine. Thence on foot easterly, to the claim.
History:
In 1986 Roy Annett discovered a copper showing at the location of this claim. The property was prospected and drilled with a plugger. The property was optioned to Donald Sutherland of Blind River who drilled three vertical holes. The holes encountered pyrite and chalcopyrite but no assays are available.
Regional Geology:
The area is underlain by Archean gneiss and greenstone belts that are overlain by Huronian sediments, in turn intruded by Nipissing diabase, olivine diabase and other late intrusives.
The Property:
The property drilled consists of one, single unit claim number L-1151286.
Ownership:
Roy Annett currently holds the claim as an unpatented mining claim.
Results and Discussions:
Overburden is 6 feet thick. Geology encountered in the hole, is restricted to Huronian sediments. The drilling did not encounter any zones of substantial sulphide mineralization. Pervasive hematization appears to originate from the disseminated sulphides present in the sediments.
About the author:
Mark Hall holds a B.Se. degree in geology and has worked in the exploration industry as a geologist or in a mining lands capacity for the past 18 years.
