Alan Horncastle, Partner, co-author of A Practitioner’s Guide to Stochastic Frontier Analysis using Stata Software (with Professor Subal Kumbhakar and Professor Hung-Jen Wang), and Dr Srini Parthasarathy, Senior Consultant, developer of procedures for speeding up computation of complex DEA models. Who should participate? Those interested in assessing performance of organisational units, such as banks, hospitals, retail companies, en- ergy companies, water companies, hotels, schools, government departments. How is the programme delivered? The teaching is based on short interactive lectures with small-group working and use of software. Course material is provided.

Performance Measurement Using Data Envelopment Analysis

• Efficiency measurement • Evaluation of the drivers of performance• Productivity measurement • Modelling using dedicated performance measurement software

OverviewThe aim of this course is to provide an understanding of performance measurement and management with the cutting-edge tool of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) using Performance Improvement Management (PIM) Software Ltd (PIM-DEA).The focus is on applications both in private and public sectors, providing delegates with tools enabling them to carry out analysis to both estimate and interpret the models.

All delegates will be given one month’s free trial of the PIM-DEA software!

PresentersThis course will be led by world-renowned experts in DEA, who have developed many of the theoretical models, practical applications and software.Professor Emmanuel Thanassoulis (author of Introduction to the Theory and Application of Data Envelopment Analysis) and Dr Ali Emrouznejad, Aston Business School, Aston University, UK, developers of PIM-DEA. Alan Horncastle, Partner, co-author of A Practitioner’s Guide to Stochastic Frontier Analysis using Stata Software (with Professor Subal Kumbhakar and Professor Hung-Jen Wang), and Dr Srini Parthasarathy,Senior Consultant, developer of procedures for speeding up computation of complex DEA models.

Who should participate? Those interested in assessing performance of organisational units, such as banks, hospitals, retail companies, en-ergy companies, water companies, hotels, schools, government departments.

About Oxera...We advise companies, policymakers, regulators and lawyers on any economic issue connected with competition, finance or regulation. We have been doing this for more than three decades, gathering deep and wide-ranging knowledge as we expand into new sectors. We have a reputation for credibility and integrity among those we advise, and among key decision-makers, such as policymakers, regulators and courts.

Our expertise...As a decision-maker you need to understand what drives company performance in terms of costs, revenues and profits. But to do this properly in a modern and complex business world often involves going beyond the simple metrics and KPIs available to an organisation. Our expertise in this environment identifies priorities and locates the areas where improvements can be made. Our performance assessment team is widely regarded as having pioneered efficiency analysis in regulated sectors. In particular, its recommendations made during UK Competition Commission cases regarding alternative approaches to assessing companies’ relative efficiency have had a significant impact.

About PIM-DEA software...PIM-DEA software is one of the most advanced products in the field. Among its many features it can assess productivity change over time, identifying components of firm and industry improvements. It can also computeallocative, cost and scale efficiency, and can identify the nature of returns to scale applicable at each unit. The software identifies performance targets and benchmarks for varying policy priorities, and imports and exports data to and from Excel.

Full details of the software, and further information about its developers, can be found at http://www.deasoftware.co.uk/index.asp
