2012 CMRC Nationals: Round #5 Gopher Dunes Race Report Trae Franklin #51 After a two week break, and his first time to Gopher Dunes raceway, Trae was very excited to get back on the #51 Honda. Coming in to practice, the track looked as ideal as one could imagine. Like a perfectly groomed ski run! But Trae knew this would be short-lived, and Gopher Dunes would soon be showing it’s real teeth, including the eastern Canada’s famous summer heat and humidity. Time to work all that training to good use! With a respectable 33 rd place overall in qualifying, lap-by-lap, Trae was getting a better feel for the track. The goal was to experience Gopher Dunes through an entire moto, and gain some experience on such a dynamic track. With a top 10 start in Moto 1, Trae settled in to a comfortable pace through the ever-changing track. Unfortunately, running in 17 th , Trae’s clutch perch adjuster malfunctioned, and he had to pull in to mechanic row to get assistance. Re-entering the track in 30 th , Trae steadily worked his way forward to a 27 th place finish. Going in to Moto 2, Trae felt ready to step things up, and improve on his performance from Moto 1. Coming out of the gate, Trae was pinched by a few riders, and had to relegate back to a 20 th place after lap 1. After making a move past a rider, Trae probably ‘zigged.when should have zagged’, and went down with his bike landing on top of him. After an exhausting bit of time removing himself from under the hot bike, Trae did his best to regain himself, and finish the moto. Trae did exactly that, and finished 32 nd for 32 nd overall on the day. Not the experience he was hoping for, but one full of experience and lessons.

2012 CMRC Nationals: Round #5 Gopher Dunes Race Report

Trae Franklin #51 After a two week break, and his first time to Gopher Dunes raceway, Trae was very excited to get back on the #51 Honda. With a respectable 33rd place overall in qualifying, lap-by-lap, Trae was getting a better feel for the track. The goal was to experience Gopher Dunes through an entire moto, and gain some experience on such a dynamic track. With a top 10 start in Moto 1, Trae settled in to a comfortable pace through the ever-changing track. Unfortunately, running in 17th, Trae’s clutch perch adjuster malfunctioned, and he had to pull in to mechanic row to get assistance. Re-entering the track in 30th, Trae steadily worked his way forward to a 27th place finish. Going in to Moto 2, Trae felt ready to step things up, and improve on his performance from Moto 1. Coming out of the gate, Trae was pinched by a few riders, and had to relegate back to a 20th place after lap 1. After making a move past a rider, Trae probably ‘zigged….when should have zagged’, and went down with his bike landing on top of him. After an exhausting bit of time removing himself from under the hot bike, Trae did his best to regain himself, and finish the moto. Trae did exactly that, and finished 32nd for 32nd overall on the day. Not the experience he was hoping for, but one full of experience and lessons.

“I could see the frustration and disappointment in Trae’s (and a few other riders I train) eye’s this past weekend. We (riders, mechanics, parents, sponsors, etc.) put a lot of work in to all this….and when it doesn't turn out the way we anticipate….it's tough to find the positive and/or enjoy it” says team manager/PerformX owner Todd Schumlick. “But, 'it’ is racing. When you are pursuing your passion, there are no guarantees that you will ever achieve your expectations, goals, dreams, fame, fortune, etc….or whatever else that motivates us (to push along). Maybe it's just 'the chance' that keeps us going? Maybe it's the thrill of racing? I guess everyone has their own reasoning” adds Todd. “Mine is simple. I do not focus on race results, as it’s not necessarily in our control. Instead, I focus on assisting each of my athletes in reaching their own personal goals. And if they are determined, dedicated, disciplined, and have the desire….then we aim for their highest potential. For anyone, this is a tall task, but possible” says Todd. Teagan Williams #136 & Danny Mathe #571 Both riders did not compete at Gopher Dunes, but will re-enter series at Walton (or earlier round). The PerformX Motocross Race Team would like to thank sponsors Troy Lee Designs Canada, RTR, RMR Suspension, Honda Canada, Kawasaki Canada, C4MX, Oakley, Signworks, FMF, Pro Circuit, Speed Merchant, Compression Technologies, Lime Nine, Cascade Energy Services, Ernie’s Sports Experts, Route 99 Motorsports, Smith Optics, Cycle North, Parts Canada, Revolution, Green River MX Park, Mathe Stucco, and all the rider’s families.
