According to Sperling’s bestplaces.net, the cost of living in Omaha is over 10% less than the national average. The Symphony is stable: musicians ratified a five-year master agreement in 2014; Music Director Thomas Wilkins is contracted through 2017/18; the symphony’s endowment exceeds $25 million. Below is a summary of benefits for which this position would be eligible: Paid Sick Leave: 2 days in the first season, with annual increases up to 10 days. A doctor’s note may be required. Other Leave: The symphony offers Family and Medical Leave, and paid Bereavement Leave. Pension: The symphony will match a maximum of 3% of this position’s minimum service guarantee. b. Your deposit must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, May 6, 2015. c. Please advise if your travel schedule necessitates an early or late audition time. We

will make best efforts to accommodate your needs. d. One week prior to the audition you will be sent your audition time and more detailed

information about the process. If you wish to cancel your audition, you may reclaim your deposit by submitting a cancellation request in writing or by speaking directly with the Personnel Manager no later than Friday, May 8, 2015. The audition process This will be a standard, multi-round audition. All rounds will be behind a screen except for the final round where the screen may come down. If the position is filled by a current member of the orchestra, the runner-up may be offered the resulting vacancy. About the Symphony The culture of the Omaha Symphony is one of grace, inclusiveness, and excellence, as evoked in music director Thomas Wilkins’s greeting to the audience at the start of the 2013/14 concert season: “I like to think of this as a place where love, curiosity and community meet at an intersection called Great Life-Altering Music. We are delighted that you are part of this community. This is indeed your home.” Thomas Wilkins has served as music director of the Omaha Symphony since 2005. He is principal conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and holds the Germeshausen Family and Youth Concert Conductor chair with the Boston Symphony. Past positions have included resident conductor of the Detroit Symphony and the Florida Orchestra (Tampa Bay), and associate conductor of the Richmond (Va.) Symphony. Devoted to promoting a life-long enthusiasm for music, Thomas Wilkins brings energy and commitment to audiences of all ages. He resides with his wife Sheri-Lee in Omaha and they are the proud parents of twin daughters, Erica and Nicole. A ROPA orchestra comprised of 70 contracted musicians (41 full-time and 29 part-time), the Omaha Symphony’s 38-week concert season includes six concert series: MasterWorks, Pops, Symphony Rocks, Movie Music, Symphony Joslyn (chamber orchestra), and Family; and numerous Education and Community Engagement initiatives which draw upon the talents of orchestra members and touch the lives of nearly 30,000 schoolchildren each year. 2014/15 concert season highlights include: Master pianist Garrick Ohlsson performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 on the MasterWorks series; Omaha Symphony musician soloists, leading guest conductors and commissioned works on the innovative Symphony Joslyn chamber orchestra series; the Fresh Ink new music symposium featuring composer John Corigliano;
