People, Social Media& Behaviour

Why focusing on social media tools is pointless…

I don’t expect to tell you anything you don’t already

know.

Notes - Manage Expectations!

So what’s new

For starters…• Google +• Facebook / Skype• IOS 5 and deep twitter integration • We could go on for sometime….

Do any of these tools really matter?Notes – Pretend you care about the technology…

Facebook this, YouTube that, tweet here, blog there...

The tools are actually pretty popular now and are

everywhere.

Notes – Impress people with big numbers and stats…

It’s actually all about social behaviour

and Expectations

Notes – Act like this is a totally new concept

Solving similar problems

Individual BusinessConnecting with friends Connecting with colleaguesCollaborating with friends Collaborating across people &

businessesOrganising friends Organising and arranging

meetingsMobilising friends Mobilising colleagues

So why do we create barriers?Notes – Don’t mention “security” & “reputation”

For some people, the technology matters…

Just ask Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, Eric Schmidt…

But my mum doesn’t really care, she wants to connect in the most convenient ways possible and sometimes that means “in person”.

Notes – Don’t mention Mum is a Farmville addict

…tools simply enhance and extend existing social

behaviours

Look around you

Focus on the behaviours that these tools foster in your friends, family, co workers and employees

Notes – Don’t mention Mum again.

Notes – But we all know things always change.

Things are changing

“Social” is too big for a single conversation

Notes – why would we look at the whole thing anyway.

Notes – This is just like adding 2.0 after everything…

It’s all just smoke and mirrors

Notes – Don’t get seduced by social media gurus

Some people will have to learn new things.

Notes – manage distractions & attention

Some people will have to unlearn lots of stuff in order to

move forward

Notes – Avoid mentioning command and control

Did anyone learn anything new?

Notes – I should have used pictures in this presentation
