People on board, transforming healthcare. This is the theme for

the 44th World Hospital Congress to be held in Barcelona in 2020.

The congress will be about the necessary transformation of healthcare

and social systems, through the transformation of health and social

services to add value to how we address people needs to improve their

quality of life; the role of professionals and citizens in this transformation

and how new technologies multiply this potential for change.

This Congress is a great opportunity to share knowledge with professionals

from all around the world. Collaborating in sharing knowledge and

experiences, leads as to better face future challenges.

From the 2nd to the 5th of November 2020, in Barcelona we have

the chance to move forward together in improving healthcare. And we’ll

do so with a firm commitment to people. We propose a journey through

all the opportunities offered by technology and knowledge, with an

incursion in humanism, to ensure there is health and social care of value

for everyone and anyone who needs it.

This four-day journey focuses on knowledge, sharing, experiencing,

improving, networking and innovating in the way we learn and build new

proposals to improve our sector. We are really lucky to work for people

and this is our reason to be. Adding the know-how and experience of our

knowledge partners, our health and social sector professionals with that

of professionals coming from all over the world, we are facing what will

be an unforgettable experience of collaboration and sharing for everyone.

With an open view to the world, more than ever Barcelona is offering its

spirit of solidarity, freedom and innovation for this global event. We look

forward to seeing you!

THEME 1. DIGITAL AND TECHNOLOGY DRIVEN TRANSFORMATIONS.

1.1 Artificial Intelligence for smart health and care

We are looking for projects or experiences that show a real impact on precision

medicine and management, which demonstrates that we can find out and solve

the true problems of and for people. Projects that help us plan, evaluate and figure

out the best way to allocate resources. Experiences that show how AI helps when

it comes to decision-making and sharing knowledge. We are also interested in

projects that address the ethical aspects of AI. In 2025, 80% of people interactions

will be AI driven. Share how AI and big data is helping us change health and care

to serve people better.

1.2 Big accurate data: how it helps us

A great deal of healthcare outcomes depends on our ability to retrieve and share

patients data. Ninety percent (90%) of world data has been created in the last 2

years: power of data is huge. People data, data stream and the knowledge we get

from it must be addressed to people’s needs, even before they know it. We would

like to know projects that show the power of data and the knowledge we can get

out of its management: Big Data for planning, evaluating, and delivering better

health and care. Can digital transformation and high performance computing help

personalized medicine for a better patients outcome?

1.3 How is digital health transforming the way health systems are run and healthcare is delivered

We need new ways of delivering health and care services. How does digital

technology help us in changing services? Does changing needs found in digital

technology better solutions? De-location of services: my caregiver is not beside me,

but is with me. mHealth, eHealth, IoT for smart health and care. Cultural change:

does technology go faster than values? How to share the digital health strategy

to improve healthcare systems. We want to share insights in this field. Role of

modernized technological innovations in improving quality of care.

1.4 Glocalization: new actors, new rules, global healthcare invaders in the local healthcare se

New actors, new rules: GAFA. Do they play a role in the healthcare market? How

they influence health care innovation? How do not healthcare players influence

at the local health and care set? Do they have any influence in forcing the model

change? Advantages of this competition, opportunities they bring in transforming

the healthcare services delivery. We want to know projects to be able to share

those insights.

11

THEME 2. TOWARDS AN INTEGRATEDCONCEPT OF HEALTH AND CARE SERVICES MODEL: VALUE DRIVEN TRANSFORMATIONS

2.1 Enabling the flexibility of organizations to adapt quickly to changes, addressing accelerated innovation adoption

We want to share best practices and experiences on which tools help us provide

flexibility to healthcare organizations. Do tools like innovative public procurement

help? We would like to share experiences on how governance has to change to

push transformation. Which tools are best for addressing effective transformations:

management, communication, financing and reimbursement models, innovation

in public health policies to support transformation of healthcare systems?

Public and private partnership roles in adding value to healthcare.

2.2 Key results that really matter: patients outcomes as the driver for better healthcare

Transforming also means measuring differently. What is measured, changes.

Are PROMs&PREMs (patients reported outcomes measures & patient reported

experiences measure) and new ways of measuring outcomes, key in promoting

change? Share new ways to measure results. Explain how value-based healthcare

payment systems can help in relation to the different healthcare models.

Standardizing versus customizing (all-omics and individualized care): predictive

medicine and impact on the healthcare model. What challenges do you face

and how have you addressed them? Right care, right health. Do you have projects

that show the impact of the adoption of advanced treatment techniques, devices,

drugs, precision medicine etc. on health outcomes (results)?

2.3 Health and care sustainability supported by applied research and innovation adoption

Explain new ways of enhancing applicability of research and innovation,

for better health, for better care. Sustainability encompasses economic, health,

social and environmental dimensions, guarantying good results thought

time. Show us the unforeseen benefit of investing in research. Have you

ever experienced how disruptive innovation impacts on better results, with

people-needs driven innovation and or with success? Share your challenges,

difficulties, and help the healthcare community improve.

2.4 Global Healthcare, global mobility, global access: towards a liquid borderless healthcare system

Breaking the walls, hospital is a concept not a building. Hospitals in the focus:

from local players to global players. How do we make the healthcare system

liquid, accessible, friendly, global, open? Do you have some tips? Global health

care, what does it mean? A network of healthcare services around the world?

From “health tourism” to cross-border health care and global care, how does

digital development affect global health care and mobility?

Page 12: People on board: Transforming HealthcarePeople on board, transforming healthcare. This is the theme for the 44th World Hospital Congress to be held in Barcelona in 2020. The congress

12

THEME 3. PEOPLE AT THE CENTER OF HEALTHCARE SYSTEM TRANSFORMATIONS.

3.1 How to put citizens at the center of health and care

Do you have projects on how to address changing values in your society and its

impact on needs, technology, results and health and care services? Which

is the best way to address social determinants of health? Do you want to share

with us projects that show how to enhance PCC Integration of health and social

services? Have you experienced if people empowerment, co-production,

design thinking, co-design improves health and care delivery results? How patient

interface with digital technology must be leaded to contribute to a better

healthcare delivery. Have you proven: nothing for people without people? Do you

want to share it with the world health community?

3.2 Humanistic centered care

What does continuum of care in the digital era mean? Favoring the humanization

of people care: social and healthcare services together. Support transformation

by supporting patients, families, clinical and health teams with IT capabilities. Care

we need to provide inside the walls: we also put people at the center. Towards a

friendly, cozy architecture for facilities we have to build. Health and care at home

and in the community, share your best practices.

3.3 Professionals leading transformations: the strength of professionals to promote transformation

Empowering the healthcare workforce: let’s get the most out of it. Share with the

health community how professional roles must change due to changing demand

for services: complexity, chronicity, changing and new society values and new

technological opportunities. Human capacity development to foster adoption

of technological transformations by healthcare professional. Have you analyzed

how to redefine traditional roles? How health and care professionals can

be motivated to embrace digital health transformation? Do you have projects on

working with patient-experience or in co-producing services with your patients?

Do you have projects to show us on how to extend care teams beyond hospital

walls? Or how professionals are empowered to transform care, changing

role of clinicians in terms of digital transformations. Training healthcare

professionals on digital technology

3.4 From health management to ethical leadership

Do you have examples of the power of good governance and accountability

in transforming healthcare? Which strong and groundbreaking leadership roles do

we need to make things happen? Do you have projects to show us in which

management and leadership is needed to promote transformation effectively?

Can you share projects on how to innovate in managing people in a fast evolving

environment? Examples on how to retain talent, changing professional roles,

multi-disciplinary. What does it mean to lead in those new environments?
