Practical Medical Communication Skills Workshop (PMCS Workshop)

Collaborated with HAHO’s Training and Development Team and the NTEC Human Resources Division

Objectives: (1) To equip frontline doctors with effective and practical communication skills (2) To foster a positive and proactive culture in patient communication

Target participants: Doctors who are in their first 5-6 years of service Time: 12:00 noon – 2:00p.m. Certificates issued by CCE

Outcomes

Conducted 3 workshops with 61 attendants PWH : (4 Sep 14) 91% PWH: (18 Sep 14) 93% NDH: (25 Sep 14) 71%

• 92% -- have a better understanding on the rules of thumb in

patient communication • 94% -- course content is practical for use in workplace • 92% -- facilitators have enhanced their learning in the course

Evaluation

Other comments: • Busy daily schedule, limited time and crowded environment

are the obstacles in applying the communication skills to daily clinical works

• Excellent personal experience sharing from Professor and senior doctors

• Whether this workshop can extend to allow more doctors to apply?

• The program is useful to enhance communication. May consider having different scenario and cases to practice further. e.g. DNR.

• Difficult to act hypocritically in offering options to patient with empty content
