Greetings and hope this E-Newsletter finds you well!

Here we are with our fourth issue! Please remember, we ask that a “hard copy” of this

e-newsletter be made available at affiliate parish CCW meetings. In so doing, those who do not have

email or internet can have the opportunity to peruse the newsletter. The newsletter can also be found

on our website once our Webmaster is able to add it.

And, we are excited to be sponsoring a September “road trip” to several sites in Alabama! Look

for the registration form, itinerary and details in this newsletter!

Greetings Everyone!

Whew! Check the box for our 44th Annual Convention! Based on many comments received, I believe

that we had a very successful and spiritually uplifting day. Along with the heartfelt personal

testimonies of graces, there was a lot of laughter and fellowship amongst those who attended! Much

thanks once again to the women of the Eastern Deanery, and in particular Linda Husbands,

ED President/Convention Co-chair for helping provide us with a great day!

Additionally, 31 people went on the tour of Mission San Luis! Some fruit came

from the tour (not referring to the kind you eat). Perhaps some Councils can

bring the “news” of the Florida Martyrs to their respective parishes. Prior to

convention, I got to attend Catholic Days at the Capitol. As President of our

PTDCCW, I had the honor of helping carry the gifts (I had the wine) at the Red

Mass along with our FCCW Province Director Jean Bazley and the presidents of

five other Florida dioceses. Another special event I got to attend was a

Commemorative Mass for Blessed Clelia Merloni who is the founder of Sr.

Margaret Kuntz’ order, the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was a

beautiful Mass where a first class relic was presented to the Diocese and was

then venerated. Sr. Margaret Ann Calcutta, ASCJ is pictured holding the relic.

A reception followed. The women of the Western Deanery served as hostesses and provided an

infinite array of platters layered with cookies! (Thank you for the invitation Sr. Margaret!)

And, most recently I had the honor of attending the Burse Club Lunch at St. Margaret’s in DeFuniak

Springs. I got to chat with several of our seminarians and enjoyed Fr. Rick’s delicious stuffed

cabbage rolls! That’s it for now…

May Our Lady of Good Counsel pray for us and may we all be blessed with good health and a safe

summer!

SPIRITUALITY Written and submitted by Peggy Clark, Spirituality Commission Chair Gateway to Heaven (How to prepare to go through it with all flags flying.) I am thinking of a glorious sunset I saw in Holy Trinity, Alabama…a glorious ending of a glorious day, Rose-red through the sky. The first thing a prayerful soul would think: "Praise God who created it!" The second thing would be to thank Him. It is an exhilaration to me to think that this is the God I serve. How glorious is this sunset; how glorious will be my "setting," my death”? Only the memory of good done will be there to make you happy at death. You know, my Council sisters, you may be deluged with many good things of this world but you cannot bring one fragment of that to your deathbed. Tomorrow's paper will carry so many notices of sudden, violent deaths. So that we are not hurled into an unprepared and unexpected eternity, let us all ask God the Father to have pity on us and deal with us gently. Take advantage of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and from the standpoint of a Christian, we, my Council Sisters, will be carrying our flag gloriously. Note: This sacrament should be done frequently as we forget stuff! Fly your flag!!!

Christianity Undiluted Every time you smile at someone, it's a gift to that person. Some enter your life as blessings, others are lessons. If we want love, we must learn to forgive. God did not call us to be successful, He called us to be faithful. If you can't feed 100 people, then feed one. If you judge people, you have no time to love them. If you want to change the world, love your family. Spread Love everywhere you go. Peace begins with a SMILE!

Spiritual Book Club Submitted by Mary Sauvageau, Member St. Mary CCW

In 2014, I started a Spiritual Book Club sponsored by our parish’s CCW. The book

club addresses the mission statement “…to support, empower and educate all

Catholic women in spirituality, leadership and service…” We pray, we learn, we grow, we facilitate discussions

and we enjoy a little wine (we do meet in the evening)! Recently we began our 15th book, The Ear of the Heart:

An Actress’ Journey from Hollywood to Holy Vows by Mother Dolores Hart, O.S.B. and Richard DeNeut.

We will finish this book the week prior to the convention in Atlanta where I hope to have my copy autographed

by Mother Dolores who will be honored at the Welcome Lunch at the NCCW Convention in August! The fluid

group of women who participate in the book club have all enjoyed the opportunity to read a book that may not

necessarily have been on their recreational reading list and many have embraced the challenge of stepping out

of one’s comfort zone to lead a discussion. This book club has proven to be quite a blessing! Interested in

2019 NCCW CONVENTION: CARING FOR GOD’S CREATION

ATLANTA, GA---August 20-24 Hoping our PTDCCW will be well represented at the NCCW Convention especially since it is in

driving distance! This looks to be another fantastic convention! Much has been planned including a special

award presentation to Mother Dolores Hart, a great line up of speakers, the Lourdes Virtual Pilgrimage Tour, a

fundraiser event featuring Atlanta’s International Youth Chorus and much more! Registration closes July 29.

From our own diocese, BISHOP WACK will be attending his FIRST NCCW Convention! At the Friday Night

Province Dinner, SHEILA HOPKINS and SUE WEATHERSBEE, both from the Eastern Deanery in Tallahassee

will be installed; Sheila as FCCW Province Director and Sue as FCCW Vice President. Our own FR. RICK

DAWSON, by virtue of his position as DCCW Spiritual Advisor, will be the FCCW Spiritual Advisor!

2019 ORLANDO DIOCESE CCW LEADERSHIP

SYMPOSIUM

LAKE YALE, FL---July 27 & 28 This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about various aspects of council.

Past workshops have covered Commissions, Officer Duties, Team Building,

Communication, Writing Reports, service project ideas, etc. A FRUIT FROM

LAKE YALE: St. Mary CCW in Ft. Walton Beach adopted the Little Dresses for

Little Girls in Africa service project that was presented several years ago at a Lake Yale Symposium. Women

continue to participate in this project to this day and have sent THOUSANDS of adorable “pillowcase” dresses

to little girls in Africa who became orphans as a result of the AIDS epidemic. The project has since expanded

and little dresses go to many more places including Haiti and the Appalachians.

Touch Grotto rocks and the liquid grace of Lourdes water. Adoration and Benediction. Receive a bottle of

Lourdes water. Prepare a petition to be placed in the Grotto in Lourdes. A plenary indulgence is granted to all

under the usual conditions.

Thursday: Province Dinners including salad, entrée and dessert - $75. (Note that cost of events include more

than just the meal! )

Friday Night Fundraiser: Entertainment by Harmony: Atlanta’s International Youth Chorus-$25.

Most Reverend Peter Rosazza, member of USCCB Committee for Social Development and World Peace and

liaison with Brazilian Catholics for the Committee on Migration and Refugees. Bishop advisor to the National

Catholic Student Coalition.

Kim Polote, an American Traditions gold medal winner from Savannah who travels around the world singing

and speaking of her faith journey and a trained speaker for the 80 year old ministry of Stonecroft reaching 42

countries to introduce people to the faith in Jesus Christ and help people grow in their faith.

Dan Misleh, Founding executive director of Catholic Climate Covenant working with partners to share Catholic

teaching on Care for Creation. Worked 11 years for USCCB Department of Justice, Peace and Human

Development.

BURSE CLUB NEWS! Submitted by Sue Weathersbee, Eastern Division Burse Club Director

I would like to thank everyone who prayerfully and financially supported the Burse Club over the past year. It

was a great pleasure to present, on PTDCCW’s behalf, a check for the amount of $257,000 to Bishop Wack at

our 44th Annual Convention.

The weekend of July 27-28th will be “Burse Club Sunday” where there will be a second collection for donations.

I would like to encourage parish Burse Club Directors to promote the Burse Club at your parish. You can put

announcements in the bulletin, speak at Masses, present information from the pulpit or insert Burse Club

brochures in the bulletins. (FYI-New brochures should be in place soon!)

Last July, I spoke at all the Masses at Blessed Sacrament Church in Tallahassee about the Burse Club and how

it helps provide financial support to educate our seminarians and I met many supporters after the Masses.

Just a reminder – Bishop Wack celebrates Mass on the last Tuesday of each month for the intentions of all the

Burse Club members and for any intentions mentioned in the Burse Club Mass cards. If you would like more

information or need Burse Mass cards, send me an email using the link below. Suggested donation is $10 per

Burse Mass card. Annual membership to the Burse Club is $12 which equates to $1 per week!

“Grace upon Grace” Annual Convention Recap & Photos

Our 44th Annual Convention with the theme, Grace upon Grace, was a success! It proved to be a

spiritually uplifting day for all 90 attendees as we heard personal testimonies from various speakers

who graciously shared stories of their trials and blessings. Speakers included Eileen Schamber, her son

Fr. Richard Schamber; Fr. Kevin McQuone, who spoke on graces experienced in the aftermath of

Hurricane Michael (we also welcomed his mother as a special guest); and Fr. Shane Stevens, who hails

from South Dakota and is on “loan” to our diocese. Additionally, Dr. Mary Soha gave an informative

presentation on the Florida Martyrs who, through the grace of God, are on the road to sainthood. The

following day, an optional private tour of Mission San Luis was offered. Two very knowledgeable

women from our diocese who are involved with the cause for sainthood of the Florida

Martyrs were our personal tour guides. The 31 folks who attended were amazed as our

guides spoke in great detail about the martyrs, their way of life and the canonization

process. This is a really BIG DEAL for our diocese!!!

We also had the pleasure of celebrating Mass with our Bishop, the Most Reverend William A. Wack;

our Spiritual Advisor, Fr. Rick Dawson; and our three wonderful priests who had shared personal

testimonies. We enjoyed a delicious lunch and much fellowship. Bishop Wack was presented this

year’s Burse Club check and $$$ raised on this one day for our Past Presidents’ designated charity, the

Hurricane Michael: Rebuild Our Churches Fund. And, we gave Bishop Wack a “special” gift to

commemorate the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. Additionally, time was allowed

for “table-sharing” where individuals had the opportunity to share moments of grace in action in their

lives. It was a great day in which members came together to celebrate our organization and to hear and

share stories of GRACE!

All of the Past Presidents of our PTDCCW would like to thank all those members and Councils that

contributed to the Past Presidents’ Charity of Choice, the “Rebuild Our Churches Fund” at the April

convention. We are pleased to announce that we were able to contribute a total of $2013.32 to this worthy

cause. Bishop Wack was pleased to accept our donation and we are pleased it will help with the damage

sustained in our Panhandle churches as a result of Hurricane Michael.

the priesthood…a customized sock organizer!

FCCW HUGS FOR THE HOMELESS RESULTS

THANK YOU to affiliations, deaneries, parishes and individuals

for contributing to the 2019 FCCW Hugs for the Homeless Campaign!

It is with great joy that I can finally say we passed the $50,000 mark collected from our Council sisters from all over the

state! Below is the breakdown:

Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee $ 7,244

Diocese of Orlando $ 7,018

Diocese of St. Augustine $ 6,886

Diocese of St. Petersburg $ 4,785

We also benefitted from the profits of the FCCW History Book sales giving us a total of $7,932.04.

It is my hope that we spend more time during the year on education of the homeless problem in our state. I thank all the

affiliations that participated this year.

organizations within each of our four deaneries. Monies are being put to good use by the

organizations listed below that strive to serve homeless men, women and children.

Western Deanery gave to: Catholic Charities of NWFL Homeless by Hurricane Michael

West Central Deanery gave to: Crisis Aid for Moms & Littles, Niceville

East Central Deanery gave to: Salvation Army Domestic Violence Shelter, Panama City

Eastern Deanery gave to: Grace Mission, Tallahassee

West Central Deanery Council of Catholic Women is hosting a “Summer Camp” Bunco Party

Friday, June 21st at St. Mary Parish Life Center! Doors open at 10:30 a.m.---Game Time

11:00 a.m. JOIN US for fellowship, fun & lunch! Twelve “Giveaway” prizes, cash prizes,

50/50 Drawing with consolation prizes will also be part of the fun! All are welcome! No Bunco

Speaking of FUNdraising…

A FALL FUNDRAISER IDEA

Last fall the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More CCW decided to try a new fundraising idea. Our usual fall fundraiser is a

spaghetti dinner but, due to our kitchen renovations, that had to be cancelled. So, we contacted the Monastery of the

Holy Spirit in Conyers, Georgia to find out about selling the monk’s fruitcake and fudge to our parishioners in time for

Christmas delivery.

They were pleased to work with us and were very accommodating. They sent us a box (at no charge) with each of their

items (four kinds of fudge, fruitcake, biscotti, honey, and coffee) which we offered as “tastings” on two weekends in

November following the Masses. Parishioners filled out their order form and paid at that time so we could have funds

when we placed the order.

The Monastery provided us with a recommended price list which covered the amount we would pay them and the

amount we would keep for our budget (it averaged about 25%). We totaled the parishioners’ orders and submitted it to

the Monastery along with the check for their portion. The total we sold was $2000; we submitted $1600, leaving us with

a profit of $400.

We had all the orders available for pick-up following Masses the weekend before Christmas. Everyone was pleased with

the quality of the products and happy to not have to pay shipping to get their order!

If we repeat this again in 2019, we will most likely add an amount to the cost of each item to defray the shipping cost so

our affiliation members do not have to make the 5 hour drive to Conyers to pick up the order! However, if anyone

wanted to combine the pick-up with a nice get-away with some Council sisters, there is a retreat house, a green house,

and a gift shop on the property. If interested, contact Jim Burnham at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit (1-800-592-5203).

He is most helpful. The Monastery address is 2625 Hwy 212 SW, Conyers, GA 30094.

NCCW Individual & Supporting Memberships

Of the 24 active provinces in our country, our Florida Province has the most Individual/Supporting NCCW

Members! We want to keep it that way! In 2020, NCCW will be celebrating 100 years of existence.

RECALL Fr. Rick, our Spiritual Advisor, has challenged our Florida Province to increase

Individual ($50)/Supporting Memberships by 100! Have you become an annual member yet or

do you need to renew your membership? In so doing, you help support the greater National Council of

which we are members through our affiliations. You will receive the quarterly Catholic Woman Magazine (see

next page), the monthly Connect e-newsletter, access to NCCW Members-Only Resources on the website and

The new Catholic Women Magazine is arriving in mailboxes!

The feature story, Mother to Daughter: Winkie and Susie Share the Joy of Faith

and NCCW, showcases two wonderful faith-filled women who happen to be from

the Orlando Diocese! Winkie Lefils and Susie Harting have served (and

currently serve) on all the various levels of Council.

They are Council Strong!

ROAD TRIP!

EWTN, Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament &

Ave Maria Grotto

September 27-29

As mentioned earlier, the PTDCCW Board is excited to be sponsoring a road trip to several sites in

Alabama. This is a first and we are hoping to fill the bus! Since it is a bus, there is obviously limited

seating. The bus can accommodate 55 people.

All of the details are provided on the next FIVE pages. This includes the itinerary, registration forms

and a suggestion to read a little before embarking on this journey.

We hope this opportunity is well received and provides a spiritual, interesting and enjoyable time for

those who go.

Please note that this opportunity is for CCW members only. Registration will ONLY be accepted by

snail mail. If you’d like to go, print and complete the two registration forms and send them with your

payment.

Then, order a copy of the book and start reading! (FYI…This was Book #7 of the St. Mary CCW

Spiritual Book Club. It’s a goodie!)

Please adhere to this code of conduct/dress code for the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament

While in the Main Church (Temple) and the Lower Crypt Church, in order to show respect to our Lord Jesus

Christ in the Most Blessed Sacrament, as well as to show a spirit of charity to the Nuns, the Priests and

Brothers, and the other pilgrims who are Adoring our Lord, the Nuns request the following:

1. Please observe SILENCE when you enter the Main Church and Lower Crypt Church.

3. If at all possible, please do not leave Mass in the Main Church before the Blessed Sacrament has been

exposed and the Nuns have finished singing.

4. Please refrain from taking pictures and video inside the Main Church and Lower Crypt Church. There are

many lovely pictures and postcards which you may purchase at the Gift Shop of El Nino in Castle San Miguel.

You are welcome to take pictures anywhere else on the grounds.

Sunday Lunch Info & Order Form

On Sunday, we will enjoy a quick lunch in the Orchard House at Peach Park in Clanton,

Alabama. Peach Park is known for its homemade fried pies and ice cream. YUM!

This stop is about an hour south of Birmingham. We will be arriving between 1:00 p.m. and

1:30 p.m. This is a late lunch. Bear in mind that there is time Sunday morning for a leisurely

complimentary breakfast at the hotel. We will depart the hotel at 10:15 a.m. and head to

Birmingham for Sunday Mass.

This lunch is not included in the trip cost due to options and prices.

We do want to have lunch prepared and ready for us to sit down and munch in order to get

back to DeFuniak Springs in a timely manner.

Please make your selections, and send this form along with your registration form and total

payment so we can submit our group order in advance and have one payment ready.
