PROPOSED PROJECT IMPROVEMENTS
Bridge Replacement Project
Existing Structure is a single-span supported by concrete encased steel beams.
Scope of work includes replacement of superstructure and abutments with a precast concrete box culvert, rock lining streambank protection, drainage improvements, approach roadway pavement resurfacing between points 115 feet south and 115 feet north of the new structure, sidewalk reconstruction, and guide rail replacement.
Project will be built utilizing a full detour for vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
PROPOSED PROJECT IMPROVEMENTS
Bridge Replacement Project (Cont’d)
Right-of-Way will be acquired at upstream and downstream sides of South Arch Street for culvert construction and other related work. Additionally, channel easements will be required for rock lining placement in the stream channel, and temporary construction easements will be required to accommodate construction activities.
Underground utilities will likely need relocation to allow for excavation for culvert installation. Utilities affected include Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania American Water, and Connellsville Municipal Authority (sanitary).
Construction anticipated to begin the summer of 2022.
PROPOSED TRAFFIC CONTROL
Traffic Control Plan
During construction of the bridge replacement and roadway work, vehicular traffic on South Arch Street (SR 1037) will be detoured via West Cedar Avenue, South Pittsburgh Street (SR 1037), and West Woodlawn Ave. The detour route length is just under one (1) mile (0.9 miles) from closure point to closure point. Pedestrians will be expected to use these same roads, but total detour length is 1.1 miles.
Local Traffic Access
Access to Connellsville Area School Stadium, DraybellaSalon, Rocky’s Auto Services and residences along South Arch Street will be provided at all times, from the south via South Arch Street and West Woodlawn Avenue.
