History: The Cemetery Club

A beautiful, well-kept Peninsula cemetery was a mess of poison ivy, hazel brush and blackberry briars prior to the organization of the Peninsula Cemetery Club in 1915. The first officers were: Mrs. Ike Smith, Mrs. Mitt Heim, Mrs. T. F. Taylor, Mrs. C. C. Alley, Mrs. Eva Schaber, and Miss Mary Daughery.

The first grave was the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Tandid Dix. The present officers are: Miss Susie Wamocott, Mrs. Walter Mercer, Mrs. Ethel Reed, Mrs. Minerva Schupp, and Mrs. C. C. Alley. The Peninsula Cemetery Corporation was organized in 1969 for the purpose of establishing a perpetual fund for the maintenance of the cemetery. The club continues to function as it has for 58 years. She loved gardening, sewing, bingo, helping others, and being a wife and mother. Jo is preceded in death by her mother and father, one brother and three sisters. Jo is survived by her husband Elwood, sons Doug, Daryl, and Gordon, daughter Ann, brother George Heim of Seattle, WA, two grandsons, three granddaughters, three great grandchildren, and scores of friends. The body was cremated.
