Parents may register the brothers and sisters of

students who are already enrolled at a school

All siblings must be enrolled on the same campus for

the 2013-14 school year

If siblings are not registered during this time period,

sibling status is forfeited

General Open Enrollment

January 23, 2013- February 12, 2013 Parents submit their Open Enrollment applications only

for schools other than their neighborhood school

online at www.openenrollment.info

The official Open Enrollment application submission

period ends on February 12, 2013-midnight

Families who wish to attend their neighborhood

schools do not need to submit the Open Enrollment

application

College & Career Pathways and

Dual Language Immersion Programs

Eight Pathways for

entering 9th and 10th graders

35% of spaces are reserved for “non” school of residence students

Neighborhood students will enroll in Pathways at their site following registration

Agreement to remain in Pathway-exit returns to school of residence

All applications are submitted online

Two Dual Language Immersion programs: Spanish at Jackson and San Rafael Elementary Schools, and Mandarin Chinese at Field Elementary

35% spaces reserved for school of residence (neighborhood) students

Opportunity to indicate preference for Spanish DLIP site

Three Permit-Only Schools in PUSD

Marshall 6-12 Don Benito K-5

Norma Coombs Alternative K-5

Reserve 35% of the open seats for students who live in

the “neighborhood preference” area

These seats will go through lottery first and “x number” of

seats are filled with students living in the neighborhood

If there are more students in the neighborhood than open

seats those students will go through the “regular” lottery

Timeline After Applying

Notification mailed home to families

If student is selected through the lottery for a school other than first choice the student will be placed on the waiting list of the first choice school ONLY

March 14-April 4, 2013

School Registrations

√ Parent/guardian must go to the site with the letter to enroll in the school accepted to through Open Enrollment lottery

√ The seat will be forfeited if not registered during this time frame

Open Enrollment Closes!

April 30, 2013

Open Enrollment closes for the upcoming 2013-2014

school year

No waitlists are maintained either centrally or by

school sites

Any and all movement of students between school sites

is done centrally

If in doubt, contact the Office of Permits & Records; a

school cannot accept a student after this date unless it

is the student’s school of residence

Interdistrict Permits & New to PUSD

Request for a specific school is made by family and the Office of Permits & Records contacts site

New in 2013-14

Children entering Kindergarten must turn five years old by October 1, 2013

Transitional Kindergarten is planned for children with birthdates from 9/2/2013 - 12/2/2013 - Sites TBA

Percentage of students who will get neighborhood preference for the permit-only schools and the three Dual Language sites increases from 30 to 35%

Families will be able to make five school choices this year via Open Enrollment vs. three last year

A new STEAM Magnet opens at Washington Middle

School; students apply and complete an assessment

A new College & Career Pathway at PHS, App Academy;

applications are accepted with all other online applications

Beginning with the 2013-14 school year, non-resident

students accepted to Sierra Madre Elementary School

will not automatically continue on to the middle school;

they will need to re-apply via Open Enrollment

There is no Late Application Period - all applications

must be submitted by the February 12, 2013 deadline

Out-Of-District Students

Wishing to Apply

Open Enrollment is for residents of PUSD, which

includes Pasadena, Altadena and Sierra Madre

PUSD does accept students from other school districts

based on Board Policy 5117

Non-resident students interested in Pasadena Unified

School District programs can apply beginning Monday,

May 6, 2013 and…

The District may accept online applications for specific

programs in late March or April, though notification of

acceptance would not happen until May 6 or later
