Greetings Residents,

The current Board is excited to serve another term for the community. From the findings at our Annual Meeting, all residents in attendance, reported they are happy with the way business is being ran in Pelican Pointe. We have completed several projects including clubhouse landscape lighting, upgraded

camera systems, and Palm tree trimming which have enhanced our community.

The Association also has multiple projects in the works to continue building our value for the community. We look forward to the New Year with anticipation for the many exciting projects to come.

The rejuvenation of the roadways will begin the first month of the year. This project will revitalize the roadways including all new striping. We will continue to work on providing more lighting around the community, especially around the pool area and pathways. This will allow us to extend the pool hours to allow some evening swimming.

As we move into this next year, our delinquency list is at an all-time low. We are continuing to take an aggressive approach with collections with a zero-tolerance level. Financially our community is in a strong position for the better.

The Board meeting is the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Clubhouse. We would love for you to join and participate.

The landscaping around the clubhouse has received a much needed boost in aesthetics. The area is now lit and beautiful to see during the night time.

The holidays have just passed, and while we gathered with family, ate to our hearts content and received a bunch of presents, man, are we broke. The holidays are so expensive! So you wake up a couple of weeks after, only to find some big ticketed item in your house broke, and you’re thinking to yourself, “..noooooo, this can’t be happening! I don’t have hundreds of dollars to replace that!” Has That ever happened to you? Often times expensive items around the house break or stop working, when you least expect it, and replacing it is going to cost you a lot of money you don’t have, or didn’t plan on spending at the time. But what if I told you you can save yourself most of the money needed to replace the item, all you need is a little know how, and an inexpensive part or two.

Some of the most common expensive items to give you problems are: electronics, most people own TV’s, smart phones, tablets, desktop PC’s, surround sound speakers, etc. So what happens if one day your smart phone or tablet’s screen breaks or the battery barely holds a charge, or it’s just running sooo slow, time to replace it, right? Perhaps not. Many times we are programmed to think.. well, that can’t be fixed, or my device is over 2 years old, time to get a new one. We’re used to hearing the same issues happen to our friends and family, and they tell you they resolved the problem by buying a new device. We’re also bombarded by media, telling us technology is changing fast and when something breaks or is a couple years old, you just need to replace it. But after an incident, with one of my own expensive items, gave me a problem, I found out that’s not the case and saved myself over $400!

Let me tell you how I saved all that money. I own a DVR that I purchased myself, rather than rent from Comcast, so that I could save myself some money. Well, my hard drive in it stopped working a few months after the warranty

expired. I called the company and they told me the only thing I could do was purchase a new one. I looked at the prices for a new one and it was over $400 to replace it with a similar model! As you’ve deduced about me from past articles, I’m always looking to save my hard earned money, and I just couldn’t stomach this unexpected cost. So I went to my BFF, ‘the internet’ and typed in “how to fix a broken hard drive in a DVR”. To my surprise, there was information on how to do that; even step by step videos on You Tube, that showed me what I need to buy; how to replace the hard drive, and specifically what type of hard drive I needed. I found out it was really easy to replace and for $70 I fixed my problem!

So I got to thinking, can this be done for other expensive things in my house if a problem occurs? Happily I found step by step instructions for those issues too. For example, I found that one of the most common issues on a TV that causes the consumer to go out and purchase a new one is that the HDMI inputs, in the back of the TV, go bad. With today’s technology most things you hook up to your TV, you do through an HDMI cable, to the HDMI port, in the back. You need to plug one in for your DVR, one for your DVD, one for a gaming system, etc.

So what happens if one or more of them goes bad? Well, I found out that while that’s not something you can change out, what you can do is use an HDMI splitter, that allows you to turn one HDMI input into multiple inputs. So, say you need 4 HDMI inputs for all your electronics but one goes bad, well, you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars buying a new TV, because you have to have 4 HDMI inputs. All you have to do is buy a HDMI splitter, for around $10, and boom, you have the HDMl inputs you need, and you just saved yourself the cost of buying a new TV.

Book Lovers' Book Corner by Cornelia Pereira, Reporter

The Book Lovers Club that I wanted so much, for my birthday a couple of years back, just completed its second year book cycle, this past October. We don't assign books the last two months of the year because of all of the holiday festivities. No one needs more "to dos" during this busy time of year.

The club gathered in November to review what we had read and enjoyed, and what books we would like to read in 2018.

If you are contemplating putting together your own book club, here are a few guidelines that I suggest: 1) Put the word out on a platform like “Next Door” for

people who live close to you who enjoy reading. 2) Offer to host a meeting at your house, and ask

people to bring books that they have read to exchange with others.

3) Have wine & cheese or some kind of light refreshments available.

4) Select the person who will be the official coordinator of the club.

5) Consider your club's own rules and discuss them at the meeting.

6) Search the Internet for suggested reads. Books that make for good book club reads are often those that pose dilemmas and have some sort of ambiguity that makes for good discussion.

7) Democracy rules… make sure that all members of the book club are able to voice their views. “Happy reading!” …It’s a wonderful pastime and

even more enjoyable when you share a book with others.
