Little Stars Hockey is a program for children,ages 4 - 8 that teaches the basics of skating andhockey. Our goal is to teach the basic skillsrequired by participating in a variety of activitiesand adapted game situations. We also stressfun while playing hockey and engaging in physi-cal activity, creating and refining basic motorskills and the introduction of the concepts ofcooperation and fair play. Loaner equipment isavailable for the participants. All equipment willbe distributed Oct. 5th & 7th 8:30 am to 5:30 pmin the Memorial Arena. Bring your skater toinsure proper fitting.

Beginner tots (3 - 5 yrs.)Classes designed for the skaters first time on theice. In this class we will teach your skater the prop-er way to fall down, get up and start moving on theice. Skaters will be taught the "fun"damentals ofskating.

tots (3 - 5 yrs.)For the skater that has progressed from the begin-ner tots class. Skaters will begin working on two footglides, dips, swizzles and learning the technique ofstopping. This class still stresses the "fun"damentalsof skating through games and play time on ice.

Pre-Alpha (6 yrs. - Adult)For the beginning skater. In this class we will teachforward movements and start the basics of back-wards movements. This class teaches the basicfoundation to skating.

Alpha (6 yrs. - Adult)The skater that has mastered forward movementsincluding one foot glides, swizzles and the snowplow stops. Alpha skaters will begin forward stroking(the basics to all skating). They advance to forwardcrossovers, one foot stops and two foot jump turns.

Beta (6 yrs. - Adult)Learning the more advanced moves of skating, workon backward stroking, t-stops, lunges and Mohawks.The Beta level skater will be encouraged to watchthe technique and form of all moves. This classmoves faster and is for the skater that wants to havefun and look good doing it.

All team skaters are introduced tothe concept of team basics: elementary holds,footwork, formations and transitions. Team isdesigned for the skater with the drive to become astronger skater and make life long friendships.The team will practice one 45minute session plusone hour session each week. Gamma (6 years - Adult) Skaters are taught to put the movements intocombinations, Mohawk combinations, how tomake all combinations flow gracefully, learn rightand left arabesque and hockey stops.

Delta (8 years - Adult)Skaters work on edges and speed to begin thefoundations of jumping combinations, and workon form and techniques to become a strongerskater. Delta skaters put the waltz jump andMohawk jumps into combinations, work on con-secutive edges, backward crossovers, and powerstroking these skills are needed for the jump andspin level.

Junior Jump and Spin: Junior jump and spin is for the skater that hasprogressed from the Delta level. Junior jumperswill begin getting their skates off the ice.

Senior Jump and Spin:Senior jump and spin participants must have pro-gressed out of the junior jump and spin (at thecoaches' discretion). Seniors are the mostadvanced skaters and will work on axles, doublejumps and advanced combinations.

tutuS AND tAP SHoeS- This program makesthe basic techniques of dance fun! you will learnthe basic building blocks needed to become abetter dancer. In this class they will be taughtpositions, terms and technique of tap and ballet.Ballet works on large motor and spatial aware-ness and tap perfects rhythm and small motorskills. BAllet #1 - This is ballet class is a step up fromTutus and Tap Shoes, and Jazz. tuMBle WitH Me - A class for two andthree year olds to take with a parent orguardian. Promote positive interaction andbasic tumbling skills while having fun. Enjoya variety of activities to help develop coordi-nation, motor skills and listening skills allthrough interactive playtime.

tuMBletykeS - Emphasis is on thedevelopment of gross motor skills and bodyawareness, along with basic tumbling.Tumble Tykes enables children to enjoyobstacle course, but also receive instructionon gymnastic skills and small apparatus.

JuNioR GyM - Utilizing the skills studentsacquired in Tumble Tykes while focusing ondeveloping flexibility, strength, coordinationand balance.

tuMBliNG 101 - We will be focusing onthe beginning basics while working on prop-er warm ups, form, strength conditioningand execution.

level 1 - No experience is necessary. Thisis a beginner class that will teach the basicfundamentals of tumbling. These includebackward and forward rolls, handstands,back bends, bridges and cartwheels.

level 2 - Level 1 is recommended, but notrequired. This class is designed for studentswho have mastered the tumbling skills. Wewill be introducing front limbers, backbendsto kick overs, walkovers and more.

level 3 - Gymnasts must pass Level 2 andmust be able to perform a front and backwalkover. All tumbling skills will be perfect-ed and begin advancing into back hand-springs.

level 4 - Students must be able to performa back handspring. This class will begin toput together combinations (3series) andmust be able to do a front and back tuck tomove on.

Too much trouble to cook for one? Tired of eating alone? Thenjoin us at the Tazewell County Senior Meal Program located atthe Miller Center in Pekin. The program serves a nutritious noonmeal Monday thru Friday at 11:30am. Congregate nutrition sitesrepresent what a community is all about...socialization, volun-teerism, creativity, and teamwork. Periodically, we provide enter-tainment and educational programs. Reservations are required24 hours in advance and can be made by calling 347-2801. Iftransportation is an issue, call the Miller Center at 346-5210.They can provide transportation to and from the center.

Our home delivered meal is more than just a plate of food formany of the homebound seniors in the community. It is often thekey to independent living and is an essential part of their lives.These meals provide nutritional support as well as contact withthe outside world through our drivers. Meals are deliveredMonday thru Friday. For more information on how to obtain homedelivered meals for yourself or someone else, call 346-5237.

The programs is sponsored by the Pekin Park District and CentralIllinois Agency on Aging and operates on grant funds and dona-tions. There is a suggested donation of $3.00 for anyone 60 orolder. Anyone under 60 is required to pay $3.00.

We also serve breakfast on the 4th Thursday of each month. Thebreakfast is not restricted to seniors so bring a friend or neighborand join us for breakfast with fellowship for $3. Call 347-2801

The majority of thatland is located within the Land and WaterReserve by the Illinois Preserve Commission.The land supports about 15 species of animals,80 species of birds and a wide spectrum of plantlife. Deer, fox, coyote, muskrat and beaver arejust a few of the animals that inhabit the park.The highest point in the park has an elevation of639 feet, overlooking the Illinois River Valley.Careful and close observation of the landscapewill reveal many rare species of flowers andplant life. The hiking trail Running Deer (markedin yellow) is just over 3 miles in length, takingabout 2 hours to complete at a comfortablepace. The trail ends at the public parking areanear the Archery Range. Additional loops(marked in blue) were added to the RunningDeer trail and are used primarily by mountainbikers. Parking is available at the public parkingarea near the Archery Range and from the park-ing area at the RC Club.

fRiSBee GolffRiSBee Golf - an 18 hole frisbee disc golfcourse is available for public use at scenicMcNaughton Park. Disc golf is played by throw-ing a frisbee into a metal basket with chains,counting each throw as you would a stroke in thegame of golf. Disc golf is a versatile game for allages. All that is required to play is a frisbee. Thebaskets were purchased by Peoria Frisbee GolfClub, LTD.

Welcome furry friends and their owners to thenew dog park! This unique new amenity to thepark system is a fenced park for your dog to runand play off leash. The dog park is located justoff Court Street in Mineral Springs Park and fea-tures an irrigated turf with double gated securityentrance and exits, ½ acre for your small dog(under 30 lbs), 1 acre for larger dogs (over 30lbs), pet watering stations, waste pick up and dis-posal stations, and natural shade from existinglarge trees.

Dogs must have current vaccinations, wear theirtags and be at least 6 months old. Owners mustclean up after their dogs.

The publicparking area is on LaSalle Blvd. near Route 29(Marquette Heights) and across from the mainentrance gate on St. Clair Dr. Additional accessmay be gained from the public parking areas atthe ball diamonds on upper LaSalle Blvd. Visitorsare reminded to secure their vehicles and valu-ables when parking.

This park is located on 9th St. between Court St.and Broadway Rd. To date, the work completedincludes; installation of ornamental fencing, con-struction of a new asphalt walking track (5 lapsaround = one mile), installation of two baseballbackstops, and planting of 21 trees. Futureimprovements include; construction of a mainentry w/a memorial brick walkway, landscaping,and installation of benches.

The land supportsabout 15 species of animals, 80 species of birdsand a wide spectrum of plant life. A large portionof this park is within the Land and Water Reserveby the Illinois Nature Preserves Commission.Deer, fox muskrat and beaver are just a few ofthe animals that inhabit the park. Items of inter-est along the Potawatomi Trail are a small water-fall, an old cemetery and the “Dirksen SwimmingHole” (a spot where the late Senator EverettDirksen swam with boyhood friends). Wildflowersabound this park in the spring. Careful observa-tion will yield unusual and sometimes rarespecies of flowers like the showy orchids. ThePotawatomi Trail (marked in red) is approximate-ly 7 miles in length. The trail begins and ends atthe Totem Pole located behind the horse stables.The average hiking time is 4 hours. The trail isshared by hikers, and mountain bikers, and inparts by horse back riders. Please stay onmarked main trail (marked in red) until youbecome more familular with the park.Potawanomi means “we are making fire”. Thetribe of Potawatomi Indians lived in the Lick Creekbottoms from 1718 until 1837. The park also con-tains 2 lakes, several teepee shelters, comfortstations, an 18-hole professional Frisbee GolfCourse and a public horse stable. Public trailrides are available through the Rockin’ P Stables. Note: Horseback riders from outside of the parkmust check in and pay fees at the Rockin’ PStables prior to using the park. All horses arelimited to trails indicated with orange markers.Tent Camping is allowed by Camping Permit only,west of the Totem Pole near the Comfort Stationas indicated on the map. Camping Permits areavailable at the Recreation Reception Office atleast 7 days prior to your requested date. Fullcolor (Potawatomi) patches are available at theRecreation Reception Office located in MineralSprings Park.

The 3.95 acreproperty was generously donated by David andJanet Kasley, and is named in honor of Dave’sbrother William Anthony Kasley who served in theSignal Corps of the United States Army duringWorld War II with the 84th Infantry Division,known as the Railsplitters. This park features asmall parking lot, fun playground, benches, waterfountain, adult swing and large open areas whichwill include a soccer / football and baseball area.

WoRlD’S GReAteSt SuNDiAlWoRlD’S GReAteSt SuNDiAl is picturesquelylocated in the Sunken Gardens in Mineral SpringsPark. This unique sundial tells the hours before orafter noon and the highest point of the sun on agiven day. More interesting information is avail-able on the earth, sun, planets and latitude andlongitude at the site.
