Getting started

Pedotracker is a pedestrian movement tracking Android application which uses

only inertial sensors such as found in most of modern cellular phones. It can be

used as standalone application or in combination with a recording server. In

the second case, the locations will be sent to the server and displayed by it

graphically.

After the installation you will see the following icon in your applications screen:

Tap on this icon to run the application and see its interface.

Tap on "Settings" to set your options. The settings screen will open:

Calibration

Calibration of the sensors needs to be done to ensure accurate results. The

calibration process calculates the constant errors in the sensors ridings and

measures environmental constants that are used by the algorithm.

To open the calibration dialog, choose "calibration" in the menu.

You will see the following screen:

Please follow the directions to ensure accurate results. The calibration process

takes about 30 seconds.

Important note: In addition to the application level calibration process

described here, the device should be rotated for a while in all three axes

before use in order to allow Android OS to calibrate the magnetometer sensor

for hard iron errors.

Connecting to recording server

Before connecting to the server, you should make sure that the server is

running and that you entered its IP address and its port number correctly.

Tap on the "server connection" icon and then on "connect".

If the server is not available on the selected port number and the chosen IP

address, an error message will be received.

If the connection succeeded, the "server connection" icon will turn green:

Start tracking

The application can work standalone or combined with the recording server. If

you chose to send your positions to a server, you should connect to it before

you start; otherwise, check the "Save tracked path to file" option on the

settings screen.

Put the device on the belt in vertical orientation when its screen turns to your

right and then tap on the green "START" button.

The "START" button will change to "STOP".

Start walking. .

If the application is connected to a server, your positions will be shown on the

map:

When you finished, tap on the "STOP" button.
