This full-day Comprehensive Review of the Essentials of Practical Applications of Pediatric Procedural Sedation symposium offers a uniquely presented overview of the fundamentals of sedation and is directed toward a multidisciplinary audience. The morning session “sets the stage” for successful sedation and challenges the participants to consider their goals for sedation and how best to achieve them. Morning presentations address pediatric-specific anatomic and physiologic considerations, pre-sedation assessment, appropriate monitoring and personnel, and the pharmacology and potential adverse of effects of sedation drugs for both medical and dental providers. Presentations will include case-based discussion to emphasize important points and concepts. The two optional Pediatric Airway and Capnography Workshops provide participants the opportunity to practice “hands-on” tutorage under the one-on-one oversight of expert instructors. Afternoon sessions will offer two separate tracks with a special focus on safety, risk assessment and tailored delivery of sedation. A dedicated curriculum is offered to address the unique challenges of dental sedation and designed to meet the requirements of the Dental Board of California toward the Oral Conscious Sedation Certification renewal and of the New York State Dental Board for approved continuing education towards Dental Anesthesia/Sedation Certification.
