This term we welcome the following to the staff of Pearson High School: Mrs L. Broom
has joined us in the finance department as assistant Bursar, Mr J. Field has joined us in
the Mathematics, Life Sciences & Natural Sciences departments, Ms L. Labuschagne has
joined us in the Mathematics department & Mrs V. van de Vyver has joined us in the
Natural Sciences and Technology departments.

Exciting news is that we are, at the moment, awaiting approval by the Department of Public Works, to pro-
ceed with our new academic wing of 5 new classrooms on the tuckshop side of the school. Within the
building we revamped the bursar’s office, upgraded all the cloakrooms and added 3 more Head of Depart-
ment offices, all during the holidays.
I want to thank all parents for their support by swiping their ‘My School Cards’ - as a result, we received
R8 500 from Makro. Please keep on swiping! Thank you also to all parents who assist us in ensuring that
learners arrive dressed according to the dress regulations of the school. All of us need to take pride in the
Pearson uniform.

and Assessment Learners with assessed marks in an examination will not be eligible for the Top 20 positions. Such learners will, however, be eligible for academic awards. Learners with assessed marks will be considered for academic awards because the awards are set on more
than one examination.

* Kaylin Bouwer was part of the South African Schools’
Tennis Team which went to Wimbledon during the July
holidays. Hulle het teen ’n Skotse klub-span in
Edinburgh gespeel. Die Suid-Afrikaanse span het
algeheel teen die Skotse span gewen. Hulle het ook teen
die Sutton Tennis Academy op kleibane gespeel. Ten
spyte van min ervaring op die kleibane, het hulle baie
goed gespeel. Ons het weer eens gewen. Dit is die eerste
keer ooit dat die SA-span op dié toer beide die Skotse en Engelse spanne gewen het.
Welgedaan! Kaylin het ook aan die Johannesburg-Gauteng Sentraal-o/16 toernooi
deelgeneem: Sy het in die Enkels: 3de posisie ; Dubbels 2de posisie en Gemengde Dubbels 2de
posisie, behaal.
* Lienke Botha (o/18) wat 3de in die enkels was en die dubbels gewen het en Kerry
Pattinson wat 7de in die vroue ope platinumafdeling in die P.E. Brian Bands 2 Series-
Toernooi was.
* die volgende tennisspelers wat in die O.P.-Interprovinsiaal teen Noordkaap in die toernooi
deelgeneem het. Kerry Pattinson (o/18) het al haar wedstryde as die nr. 3-speler gewen.
Matthew Pattinson (u/14) lost both his singles matches, but won his doubles match.
Lienke Botha (o/18) was die nr. 1-speler wat al haar wedstryde gewen het.
* Lienke Botha (o/18) wat 2de in die enkels en 1ste in die dubbels in die Graaff-Reinet Mini-
Reeks geëindig het.
* to our Hockey Team who will participate in the FNB Private Wealth Super 8 Hockey
Tournament at Christelike en Nasionale Sekondêre Meisieskool, Oranje from 5—8 August.
* Abby Sieberhagen (37th) & Claire Bodley (66th) who participated in the De Beers English
Olympiad and finished in the Top 100.
* Jolie Voges, member of the SA JKA (Karate Cup Team), who will particpate in Gauteng on
26 September.

* Kiana Petersen, member of EP JKA Karate Team who participated at the National
Competition in June.
* Pascale Potgieter, member of the FSK (Karate Team) who represented S.A. in the
Netherlands in June.
* Kelly Melville who participated in the South African Pony Rider Championships and
achieved the following: 1st place for E.P. in the Interprovincial Working Hunter
Competition as well as various places in her jumping competitions despite having a
fractured arm.
* Jaydie Hall who represented the South African Gymnastics Federation (Trampoline) in
Portugal and came 11th overall in the World Cup.
* Jessica Beukes who came 2nd in the Youth C Girls’ Category in the S.A. Biathle
Competition.
* Stephan Vorster who came 8th in the Youth C Boys’ Category of the S.A. Biathle
Competition and 6th in the Youth C Boys’ Category in the Triathle Competition.
* Danéll Doulgas wat ’n lid van die S.A. Skole o/16-Muurbalspan is. She participated in
the Malaysian Junior Open Championships.
* Danéll Douglas & Lara van Heerden wat die O.P. o/16A-Interprovinsale Muurbal-
toernooi in Bloemfontein verteenwoordig het. Hulle span was die naaswenners waarvoor
hulle ’n Silwer Medalje ontvang het.
* Kaylene Corbett who participated in the S.A. Short Course Gala with the following
achievements: Gold in 100m Breaststroke for women open with a new E.P. Record; Silver
medal in the 50m Breaststroke; Bronze in the 200m Breaststroke & Bronze in the 4x100m
Medley Relay with team members, Jessica Beukes, Jessica Canter & Taryn Els, also with a
new E.P. Record.

Pascalé Potgieter (14) who took part in
the 5th World JKA Karate Association World
Championship in Vlissingen in the Nether-
lands during the July holiday. She
represented South Africa as part of the South
African Federation of Shotokan Karate (SA
FSK). Fifteen countries participated in the
competition, most of them from Europe.
She took part in the white to purple belt division, girls’ 13 to 15
years, and won the individual Kata Division with an almost perfect
routine, achieving a Gold Medal, a trophy and the World Champion-
ship Kata Title for girls’ 13-15. She achieved a Silver Medal in the individual Kumite event.
* Daniel Doyle & Kyle Jacobs who were invited to attend a Cricket South Africa Regional
Camp in July.
* Emma Finestone who was selected as a member of the Eastern Cape Mintek Science Quiz
Team.
* Jessica Beukes & Mr Ryan Peter, 2 Pearsonites (of 7 athletes chosen from Nelson
Mandela Bay) selected to the S.A. Team for Biathle World Champs in Georgia in September.
* Brad Gouveris selected for the S.A. Team to compete at Junior World Track Cycling
Champs in Kazakhstan.

SCUBA CLUB 14 Pearson learners went on a great dive to Bellbuoy and 8 learners discovered SCUBA
Diving for the first time. Some of these learners have now progressed to becoming fully
licensed PADI Open Water Divers which enables them to dive anywhere in the world.

FOCUS WEEK JOT hosted another highly successful Focus Week from 27 to
31 July. The learners were treated to Worship Bands and Guest Speakers
from around the city, visiting us throughout the week. A fantastic youth
event on Friday night will conclude this special week in the JOT calendar.
