History• On December 7, 1941 Japanese raid on Pearl Harbor in

Honolulu, HI. They took down the US Navy battleship. However, the memory of the "sneak attack" on Pearl Harbor fueled a determination to fight on. Eighteen months earlier, President Franklin D. Roosevelt had transferred the United States Fleet to Pearl Harbor because of Japanese aggression. The base was attacked by 353 Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers. President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked congress to declare war. Congress approved his declaration with just one vote. Three days later, Japanese allies Germany and Italy also declared war on the United States. More than two years into the conflict, America had finally joined World War II.
